I ordered myself a new Asus 7850 from scan to replace my old GTX 550ti as I'd read how great it was for its price but it seems to give the same or worse performance than my old card.

I used drivesweeper to remove all my drivers ATI and NVIDIA and installed the latest ones from the ATI site.

I tried a number of games, Assassins creed revelations being the worst, on the lowest possible setting i have high FPS but the game keeps freezing up.

Assassins creed brotherhood on max settings at 1920 x 1200 gives me 30 FPS and below which i feel is a little low as the only thing i changed from my old card was the multisampling. But there are no lag spikes.

Grand Theft Auto 5 Gives me 30 FPS and below as well on max settings with 1920 X 1200.

Alice: Madness returns gives me 30 FPS and below on high settings and i can actually see the triangles everything is made out of.

SW:TOR has 60fps at max settings but also seems to freeze slightly.

When I press check for updates on asus CCC it tells me its on the latest set of drivers.

I've fiddled around with Asus GPU tweak in desperation and nothing changes on the max settings of that.

My system spec is:

Crosshair V Formula (I updated to the latest version of the BIOS to try and get the card working)
AMD FX series 6200 3.8Ghz 6 core processor
Corsair Vengeance 16GB 1600 Mhz RAM
120gb SSD for windows 7 and a couple of games.
WD Caviar Blue 500 GB - Hard drive as a game drive, (only SATA 1 I know but it never held me back with my old card)
Corsair CX600 builder series PSU.

This is the first PC I've ever built and if i'm honest I just plugged everything in and hoped for the best. It all works and never crashes so I think I did everything right.

Have you overclocked it? At stock speeds the cards alright but it can hit 1300 core. I had one before upgrading and it was amazing.

Try 1100 core, 5500 mem on stock voltage

Thats also because Nivdia has far superior driver support then AMD.

Your 560ti is still receiving upgrades for games performance while AMD sits down and makes brown. You would have had better luck IMO getting 670 or getting a new 550ti and SLIing them.

Drivers have nothing to do with it. That is all I ever hear from the nvidia crowd is how bad AMD drivers are. Most of them have never owned an ATI/AMD gfx card. lol As Daemon said that is a mid-range card at best dont expect a lot from it. Get your self a 7970 and see how it runs.

Well it looks like people didn't get AMD's Memo from 2 years ago when they changed up the Model Numbers....hence this list for your understanding and I hope it helps people in deciding what card to get.

Old System
1) Ultra High End HD 5970 (Dual GPU's)
2) High End: HD 5870/5850
3) Mid Range HD 5770/5750
4) low End: everything else....

New System
1) Ultra-High End: HD 6990, HD 7990 (Dual GPU's)
1)High End: HD 6970/6950, HD7970/7950
2)Mid Range: HD 6870( 1/2 of a HD 5870)/6850( 1/2 of a HD 5850), HD 7870/7850
3) Low End: everything Else

I guess this is why you think your 7850 is so slow...Because it is. My HD5870 is still more powerful that an nVidia 550ti and it's how many years old? The only thing is I can't use PhysX with out a Patch and an nVidia card installed next to my ATI/AMD card.

I thought those two cards were pretty close in performance. I figure a 6950/7950 would be an upgrade to the 550ti. the 550 isn't a bad card. If I was you I might have got more use out that card and waited until the next gen gpus. I don't see the benefit in buying a new card to replace your old one with such a small increase in power, unless you can sell your 550 for a good price to make up for it.

The 6900 and 7900 are a upgrade. The 6800 7800 not so much. "My Asus 7850 doesnt seem much better than my GTX 550 TI" That is a 7800 series. Mid grade. my 6950 card is better than a 7850.
