Does the G75vw 180w Power Brick work on the G73's?

Im currently cutting of some plastic on my G73sw-3DE...So I can fit the new GTX 680m I got...I was going to get a G75vw to put it in but ASUS said its technicaly impossible for the G75 to use standard MXM cards, it wont even recognize it...The G73's however while usus ASUS own version of MXM card will still recognize standard MXM cards but I will void warranty cause it means I have to modify the Chassis and little wok on the Heatsink.

I hope so...Im using a Targus / Lite-ON 180w power brick right now and its running hot maybe the ASUS branded one will be cooler...I dont know yet how the GTX 680m will use it...

Awesome man. Looking forward to your results. 😄

As for the power consumption, without overclock, the system should never go above 150W for this GPU

Thanks...its realy hard work doing the mod...but The G73 does recognize the GTX 680m...i plugged it in while it was still open...the main obstruction is the chassis screw pipes...which takes a while and care cutting it down but thanks to Asus they didnt change the MXM card that much for the G73, so even the heatsink only need slight mod...Its hard work but I only spend $500 for the upgrade compared to spending $2500 for GTX 680m equiped laptops hehe

can you upload some benchmarks ?

Awesome info. Are you sure 680m wont be recognized in G75 ? Where did you take that info from ? In another forum we are making a full in depth analysis of how to make a 680m work in a G75, it would be quite a bummer to know it will not recognize it.

I'm asking cause Asus official people tend to say things that are not true. For instance, someone asked if a the G73 could handle a more power hungry GPU and they jumped saying that "NO ! The mobo is not able to handle more power than the stock hardware !", and still we have tons of people that upgrade their JH... Well, a more fresh proof... you have been able to make a 680m work.

Nop it wont the Heatsink and GPU on the G75vw was way off the MXM design...it dont even look like an MXM card just the slot is the same

Well the G75 does atleast use a MXM connector like all the other brands. But I`m not shure if the GPU would FIT inside the notebook, the way it is designed. If anyone is able to, thats a godsend because imagine that silent notebook with the best GPU there is. Asus absolutely NEED to embrace this opportunity 🙂

Anyhow, please update us on your project jorlanm. There are a lot of people interested in this GPU
