BSOD 0X00000124

Playing on my machine today and all was fine. No tweaking or hardware changes just had it running and doing a couple of odd jobs with some files. Get to the end of the niht and i get the BSOD. Shit!!!!!! WTF is going on here. So i restart a couple of times and keeps crashing just after windows 7 load screen. S o reset bios (1102) restart, and happens again. So i reflash bios. Restart, happens again. Power off remove power all together,let sit for 10 mins. Restart,BSOD again. MMMMMM does not BSOD while in bios setup,soooooooo what could it be. I jotted the error down.

In order to help with this problem, you will need to provide more info, specifically the bios settings you are using.

Are you booting at default settings? Using XMP profiles? Is this a new build, or have you been using it and this is a new problem?

Typically Code 124 is vtt voltage, Asus calls it QPI/DRAM voltage.

I say typically because it could be too low or too high vtt. In other cases, it could be the vcore settings aplied.

Thanks for taking a look Goat. The bios is at default settings.No XMB, altho i did have it set earlier to get my Ram to fun at rated speed, but i felt my cpu temp was a little high. I didnt even have it overclocked. I'm gonna try re seating Ram and start from there. I built this rig just before xmas, no probs till now.

Hello guys,

Previously I had 3930k chip that was totally unlucky. In few words - 1.4 vcore voltage to stabilize 4.4GHz.
Few days ago I bought a new one 3930k that is pretty much better. (4.6@1.38v for right now)
But there's a problem: with previous CPU every BSOD I had during OC was 0x00000101 and I knew for sure that it was about vcore. (this chip had 1 unlucky core that stops prime95 test every time)

With new one the most frequent BSOD is 0x00000124. I've googled this code for some suggestions and also found out that in can be caused by vtt.
But, right now, I run 4.6@1.38vcore and I am stable with any vtt voltage within 1.25-1.35 range.
When I try to go up to 4.8GHz I fall in 124 BSOD imminently and changing vtt voltage doesn't help (vcore was 1.46v)

BTW clocking memory down to 1333MHz doesn't makes any difference.

124 on this board is more than likely vccsa first (memory controller) VTT second or CPU voltage third. Try all of these. It can also help to tune pll to stabalise an oveclock often bringing overall volts down.

VTT at 1.25 24/7 is alot on these CPU mate please try come down if you can.

I'm not familiar enough with VTT \ VCCSA since I had no experience on previous SB platforms.
But in Raja's guide (1st thread on this forum I've found this:
VTT over-volting helps with DRAM and BCLK Overclocking. Secondary VTT does not. However, try to maintain at most a 300mv delta between both voltages for stability. 1.40v is fine on these CPUs. 1.35v is sufficient most of the time.

So I decided to set VTT around these values since I actually don't understand the impact of this setting)
Right now I'm looking for some lover voltages on my current frequencies, seems that I can reduce VTT alot.

Ok, I've spend some time to optimize voltages and now I have following settings:

BCLK 100.00MHz
CPU Mult x46
Vcore 1.39v
VCCSA 1.24v
VTT 1.1v (2nd VTT 1.05v) (Bored to reduce it much more and wait for bsod. Guess it's low enough)
PLL 1.9v
DRAM 1.7v (1.65v stock)
DRAM frequency 2400MHz (2133MHz stock) (10-12-11-28-T1)

Tested with 3 runs of 6GB LinX (I know it's not enough to be sure that settings are 100% stable but I'm pretty close to optimal values, at least I think so)

Gonna try to stress with prime95

I guess I would using my numbers that work
using the offset at 48x +0.10 with very high LLC so about on straight 1.41V

I am using @2133 with 32gb(4x8)
Vccsa 1.155V - LLC exteme in the power - Finding that even at 2333 I did not need to bring up any -seem real robust ( did bump to 1.165V)
VTT 1.16 V (2nd auto)
PLL 1.82 (auto likes to bring up to like 1.98V too high for me)
Dram 1.5 stock ( to get to 2333 I had to bring up to 1.61V)
2133 - 9-11-10-27 cr1 at 2333 -10-12-10-28 CR2 (could not get it stable at cr1)
_ passed 24hour OCCT -linpack and Prime 95 48h- so I believe it is stable.

Those are my numbers not the same cpu, however maybe it will help. Perhaps the VCssa too high.

I've already reduced VCCSA but vcore 1.41v is not enough for mu cpu to run on 4.8(

Maybe 48x is a step beyond the sweet spot. I would use offset and set +.020 to .030 and very high load line Cal. Turn all the other to extreme and max the power caps on all to max or near if not already done. Get it to pass lower the offset, I like using OCCT linpack. ( Love the graphs)
On mine 47x is like 1.36V 48x 1.38V, 49x 1.43V 50x 1.46Vish

I've spend a lot of time trying to get optimal settings, but looks like the only thing I've become is CPU degradation.

1 week ago a was was pretty stable on x46 v 1.35
Yesterday it was like x46 - 1.37v, x47 - 1.41v, x48 - 1.45v

BTW its very impressive to be able to run x50 at only 1.46!
