Hello guys,

i own a G74 lap top which has one HDMI and one DSUB out. I would like to have dual monitor system on my G74, but with digital connection (HDMI/DVI). So i'm wondering is there any way to connect two monitors on 1 HDMI OUT? I need to have separate 'desktop workspace' on each monitor, so HDMI splitter is not a device that i'm looking for.
If i connect second monitor via DSUB (or if i even use HDMI-DSUB adapter) i suppose that difference between quality of picture on those two monitors would be noticable, especially considerng that i will keep my monitors one next to another on my desk?

No, this is not possible. Sorry. I also highly doubt you could have two external monitors if you were willing to have one be on the DSUB port. There are exceptions here and there, but typically any given GPU will only be able to drive two displays, and on laptops one of those will be taken up by the internal display.

Yes you can run two external displays, but the end result is that you will not be able to run the laptop's internal display at the same time. Limits of the nVidia driver. 😞 Some AMD laptops apparently can run 3+ displays simultaneously, however.

It depends really, the newer Nvidia cards can support 3 monitors (590+) however I don't know if its the same for mobile chipsets. That aside you can run two external monitors on most laptops (I have the smart alec pics from my mate who proved me wrong with a dell latitude lol) however you lose the internal monitor while they are both running as its usually 2 monitors max

OK guys, thank you for your quick responses. I won't use laptop's display anyway, i'll get two separate monitors. I was just curious if there's noticeable difference between picture on HDMI and DSUB.

Early on there was a very noticeable difference between digital and analog with LCD monitors, but these days the difference is generally negligible on a good quality monitor. The only real downside to the DSUB connection is that you sometimes need to run the auto-correct function on the monitor to get the display centered properly.

Scott is spot on there my setup at home has 3 good quality 24" monitors 1 HDMI and 2 DVI and I can't see a difference between them

Second that. I have a DVI and a VGA monitor side by side and virtually no difference in quality. The age and calibration have more to do with quality than the the data link. auto-correct is pretty easy to run...though computer noobs get real confused when the monitor image shifts 🙂

About like the time that some colleagues of mine couldn't figure out what happened to their computer...the image was all yellow...on a VGA on connector. Somehow the cable had gotten bumped and disconnected the blue component...fixed instantly when I pushed the VGA connector back in! 🙂
