Hey guys,
I got a Razer Onza ( http://www.razerzone.com/minisite/onza/faq ) which is Xbox 360 and PC compatible. It worked perfectly on my Dell laptop (with USB3 ports and running Win7 Ultimate x64).
But it refuses to work on my new Asus G75VW laptop (running Win7 Home Premium x64). The driver just never installs! See screenshot below.
Things i tried:
1) Using Windows Device Manager and it's Driver Updating from the interwebs is not working. It says it doesnt find the appropriate driver. See screenshot: http://postimage.org/image/ro3crufhv/
2) Installed the official software from Microsoft ( http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en...er-for-windows ) but no luck.
3) Upgraded USB3 drivers from Intel website ( http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Deta....0%22〈=eng ) - no dice.
4) I checked my BIOS settings to see if i could downgrade the USB ports from Super Speed to Normal speed (this was Razer Support suggestion) but there's no such option.
5) A Microsoft Answers page ( http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/w...9-99084e169d23 ) mentioned that this can happen on USB 3.0 ports and that the person should try a eSATA port, but i don't have one. All ports on this laptop are USB 3.
6) Trying all ports (left and right hand side) - no cigar.
7) Having a USB 2.0 hub in between - still doing same behavior
Razer support page says this controller doesn't need any driver installation. And their email support reached the conclusion that this is an operating system problem and as such they can't do much.
Any ideas?
Same problem
I'm having the exact same problem. I can't afford to upgrade to Ultimate. Are there any other fixes ?

This worked for me with the Xbox wireless receiver (should also work for a wired controller):
!!THIS GUIDE SHOULD BE FOLLOWED ONLY AFTER HAVING INSTALLED THE OFFICIAL SOFTWARE FROM MICROSOFT (step 2 above)!!
- Go to your Control Panel
- Click on Hardware and Sound
- Click on Device Manager under Devices and Printers
- Scroll down the list to Other devices
- Double-click the Unknown device
- Click on the Hardware tab
- Click on Update Driver
- Select Browse my computer for driver software
- Select Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
- Scroll down and select Microsoft or Microsoft Common Controller for Windows Class (not entirely sure since I don't have the controller to test it out)
- Select your controller (it might read XBOX360 GAMEPAD but again I'm not entirely sure) and click on Next
- When (and if) the warning message appears, select Yes
I've only used this "technique" for installing the wireless receiver but since the error is basically the same I think it should also work for a wired controller.
Do let me know how it worked out for you!!
