Weird, faint screen lines over everything on G75WV-BBK5

I just got this new G75WV-BBK5 less than a month ago, and I'm having an issue with the screen

I noticed these small lines on the default desktop wallpaper, but I assumed they were normal (from compression of the image or something). Recently, however, I notices lines on my screen while playing a game, and then started looking for them. They're mainly visible on dark colors. There are horizontal lines over the entire screen, about 2 pixels in height and 2 pixels apart. It creates this effect where the color behind them is slightly darker or lighter than the rest of it. Here's an image to show what I'm talking about: http://i.imgur.com/nml86.png

I plugged up the notebook to my 42'' 1080p 120hz tv, and it didn't have this problem. I tried changing my refresh rate to 40hz (the only other option apart from 60) and the issue was still there. The lines just flickered more.

Is this normal? Is this model just like this? Could someone with this model (or a similar model) take a look at a picture like this: http://i.imgur.com/7kTcL.png ? That color causes the issue pretty obviously. Look at the screen from a downward angle (from higher than the screen) and let me know if you see the same thing I'm seeing. If this isn't normal, the only thing I can think of is that my gpu is shot or my monitor is screwed up. If it is normal, then why is it like this? o_O

In a last effort, I'm downloading the new nvidia verde driver to see if maybe it has to do with a refresh rate issue, but I kinda doubt it. To be honest, even if there is no fix, I'd find comfort in knowing that it's normal for this model. If nothing else, I might go to best buy to look at the floor model and see if it has the same issue.

Thanks in advance

EDIT:

1.) The lines are solid, not really flickering
2.) They are about 2 pixels thick, 2 pixels apart across the entire screen, horizontal
3.) They make the color either slightly lighter or slightly darker, causing the effect seen here: http://i.imgur.com/nml86.png
4.) It can be seen with the brightness of the screen turned all the way up, and viewed from a slightly higher-than-straight-on angle.
5.) The lines can only be seen on dark colors (not black), like this (http://i.imgur.com/7kTcL.png) or this (http://postimage.org/image/a5thle5mn/full/)
6.) The lines are entirely gone in 16-bit color modes, and pretty visible with 32-bit color.
7.) I've updated to the latest Nvidia beta verde driver, and it hasn't fixed the problem.
8.) I've changed the screen refresh rate to everything between 60 and 80 hz, and it hasn't fixed the problem. At lower frequencies like 30 or 40 hz, the lines appear to flicker (although this might just be because of the lower rate messing with my eyes)

I honestly think this could be a widespread issue with this laptop that not many people noticed. I've used this thing for 3 weeks and just noticed it yesterday. It can only be seen (as far as I can tell) from a semi-high angle, on dark colors, with full screen brightness, or at least this is the best way to spot the problem.

1) The latest NVIDIA 304.48 BETA driver has resolved the "flickering horizontal lines" issue for several users. The more recent driver versions may also help with this. Issue.

2) Creating an NVIDIA Custom Resolution with a Refresh Rate of 67 Hz or 75 Hz in the NVIDIA Control Panel as discussed by @ny2lond has resolved this issue for others. See http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?5536-Asus-G74-screen-flicker-(dark-backgrounds-and-low-brig... for details.
G74SX-A1 - stock hardware - BIOS 202 - 2nd Monitor VISIO VF551XVT

Well, I tried making that custom resolution before updating the driver, and the issue was still there. Then, I upgraded to the latest Nvidia beta driver (304.79). It didn't fix the problem either. Then with the new driver, I attempted to try 67 and 75 hz refresh rates, and still nothing.

I guess I should say, the lines don't really appear to flicker, per se. They seem pretty constant. Also, I just realized, they're gone entirely when the resolution is set with 16-bit color quality. Any more ideas? 😕

Thanks for the help

Ok, well, I downgraded to the 304.48 driver, and the problem is still there. Changing the refresh rates doesn't remove the lines... I can tell that at certain times, they might be changing position vertically when the refresh rate is changed, but they're always there. Raising the refresh rate is just making them more 'solid'. I've tested everything between 60 and 80 hz, and still nothing. I even tested 30 hz just to see what it would do, and it just made the lines flicker a lot. Please, does anyone have any more ideas? This is driving me nuts.

Are you sure its not just the matte finished screen? Because I switched from glossy to this and realized it looks grainy if you look closely , and thats normal for a matte finish screen. It just takes a while to get used to. Dark backgrounds well show less grain, and sunlight or light because its anti glare.

No, it's not that.

1.) They're pretty obviously distinguishable lines, if you're looking for them. Did you see that image I first posted? That's what I'm talking about
2.) It sounds like what they're talking about in that thread the other guy linked to (the problem most of them said the driver fixed)
3.) The problem goes away entirely at 16-bit color, so its not the screen finish

If you have this same laptop, could you take a look at this for me? http://postimage.org/image/a5thle5mn/full/
Take a look at your screen, full brightness, from a slightly upward angle, and see if you can see lines on the page. There aren't any lines on this image, and if you see the faint lines, you have the problem too

thanks

Hm. Do you see any lines in this image? http://s11.postimage.org/ppgk6buhf/black.jpg

How about this image? http://s10.postimage.org/qoikclkzt/black.png

Is your example a photo of something black?

In 16bit there are far less colors that 32, thus the computer will give variations as same color.

I can see your horizontal lines. They are gone on my XPS (there I can see 2 vertical lines that are not on G75). I'll look into it. This is not flickr.

Nope, no black lines at all on either of those images. My example photo was the dark blue spots on the default wallpaper with this laptop (http://i.imgur.com/LT9js.jpg). It only occurs on dark colors. I know that 16 bit shows far less colors, but I would expect to see these lines on any shade of dark brown or dark blue or anything else like that. In 16 bit there are NO lines whatsoever, and they're pretty noticeable in 32 bit when I look for them. And ideas? I know it must have something to do with the driver and/or refresh rate, but I just can't seem to find the winning combination for this model...

If you take a screenshot, and then look at the photo on an external display or another computer, do the lines show up?

Nope, again, I hooked it up to my tv and it didn't have the issue. Also, I can move an image with these lines on it around on my screen, and definitely can tell its not part of the image itself. It's gotta be an issue with the refresh rate or monitor, not the gpu with artifacts.. It sounds exactly like the problems those other people were having in that other thread linked above, but their fix didn't resolve it for me...
