Failed Bios Update

I have a model G72GX laptop (best buy model) that had a failed bios update in a windows environment. When you power on the laptop now all lights flash there is no audio or video the fan goes to 100% and there are no post beeps to give any information about the problem. I have tried plugging in a usb floppy with AMIBOOT.ROM on the diskette and holding CTRL + HOME on boot to try to force the bios to read from the floppy and write a new bios. The floppy is never accessed and the only thing that seems to boot is the dvd drive. Is there any way to access the bios boot block sector to force a recovery through the dvd drive or a usb floppy drive or do I need to take the system to bestbuy and have the geek squad tell me it needs to have an entire new motherboard installed? thanks in advance for all your help.

you should be able to update the bios from a usb thumb drive.
