IM currently in a dilemma in regard to building a new gaming rig. Im can't decide between Asus Maximus V Extreme (Z77) and Asus Rampage IV Extreme (X79), ill be using a i7 3820 for X79 or 3770K for Z77 and im only gonna use maximum of 2 cards which currently is 2 Asus GTX670 TOP. also ill be keeping this system for another 3 years or so as im investing most of my savings in this build. so in short:

Option 1:
Asus Maximus V Extreme + Intel i7 3770K

Option 2:
Asus Rampage IV Extreme + Intel i7 3820

About the initial question: go with the Z77+3770k combo...

Second question: the Asus GTX670 DCII TOP cards are amazing...

Will LGA Maximus V E and the 37770K last 3-4 years for gaming needs? will it be a better option to invest in 2011 socket as I hear intel will support that socket in 2013 and 2014...

Well, the thing is that the LGA2011 platform is for the enthusiasts... you know, the high end... and yes, Intel may support it, at least for the Ivy Bridge-E...

The LGA1155 platform is the mainstream - and I think, it still will be good for several more years... For gaming purposes matters more the graphic card though... not sure what games are you playing (actually I'm not playing, so it's just a guess), but I assume that a GTX670 or GTX680 will still be good in 3-4 years... - if not, you can always change the graphic card(s) only and keep going on with the mobo/CPU...

I'd got with option 1. I own both combo's except my 2011 cpu is 3930K. Not sure where you plan on buying your parts since you in LA. I assume microcenter would be your best option which puts overall cost of cpu & mobo the same. The cards would be upgraded before the board and cpu whichever one you buy I think.

It's tough to make a recommendation with someone else's money, read reviews and make an informed decision. Socket 2011 has more pcie lanes that lend itself to multiple graphic's cards, the 1055 has on chip graphics you can either use as a backup if your graphic card goes bad or there are programs that put it to good use. and has the ssd caching if you don't want to spend the money on a larger size ssd for speed. and it is more efficient. And like Zka17 says the GTX 670 is the performance leader for the price.

If Im using only 2 video cards now or even with future video cards will the Z77 board which use 8X/8X hold back the cards? reason im asking is after searching various forums it seems people say 3770K is much better for gaming and even future six core CPUs won't help gaming and in some cases will reduce the performance. how much of this is true, if I get the 3770K will it be enough for 3-4 years with GPU upgrades in between?
