Maximus V Formula vs Gene?

BoydStBombers

Hey Gang,

Experienced pc builder and getting ready to build a new box for FPS/Battlefield3. I was pretty set on the MVF ThunderFX, but have seen some recent reviews rank the Gene higher. Spec's are extremely similar, so I am having a difficult time deciding between the two.

Any advice and insight is greatly appreciated!

Thanx

I really love the MVG... the question you have to answer for yourself is: how many graphic cards do you want o use?

The MVG has only 2 PCIe slots, and they're very close to each other... you can fit two double wide cards but it will be really tight... and perhaps not optimal for cooling... - so if you want multiple graphic cards, better go with the MVF...

I have a M5G, a lovely little board, I'm running 2 XFX R7770 and yes they are close together but the temps seem to be ok as they are a pretty open card and i have a side panel fan, one thing is the bottom card covers half the on board start/reset buttons and only just fit over the top of the USB/fan headers. so as Zka17 says the MVF would be better for multi cards, I'm changing to a triple wide card as soon as i can afford one..

Zka17 & Nackers - thanks for the speedy feedback! I totally missed the SLI limitations/tight fit. Planning on buying 1 GPU to start with and then adding one more about a month to 2 months later. So it looks like I will just go back to the original plan with the MVF so I have a little wiggle room for these thick stubby fingers 😛 The cool part is that either board will exceed my expectations already. Now I wait.....so ever.....patiently I wait......Is that a UPS truck?......frack!

The formula is the pick of the boards for me right now as a performance price thing. You would not be unhappy with either I might add, but certainly the Formula gets my vote.
To help us help you - please provide as much information about your system and the problem as possible.

I want to share something first.

In future and now I 'll have always one GPU...

So is there any other difference to go with formula.

I am hardcore gamer and always with O.C. Now I am using 2500K @4.5GHz with H80.

Planing 3770K with a good board..

Welcome to the Republic of Gamers forums, prosenjit!

The MVG will suit your needs quite well. Save the extra bucks and put it toward other aspects of your rig.
