G55VW-RS71 MXM slot?

I've search about, but does anybody know if the G55VW-RS71 or any G55 model (or G75) models have a MXM slot? I know ASUS uses their own size cards but the MXM slot is standard? Is this correct?

Besides cooling, etc, is their anything stopping me putting in an AMD 7970M card?

Even if you find one that works on Asus, it won't fit in G75.

G55 has no MXM as far as I know.

ASUS generally uses either custom MXM (very frequent), soldered GPUs (frequent on non ROG laptops) and standard MXM (G73JH only :(). I doubt you will be able to find a card that fits ... though if you do, let us know! 🙂
I am disturbed because I cannot break my system...found out there were others trying to cope! We have a support group on here, if your system will not break, please join!

I'm planning on removed it from the chassis anyway - don't ask 😮
Any size MXM card will fit this way, so does anybody know if the BIOS restricts non ASUS cards?

Yes they are MXM...Not you can not use any cards. The slot is MXM but the pin out is proprietary to Asus and the cards the laptop comes with. Conformed with a Multimeter in my G75. When you jam a card into it you run the risk of causing damage to your motherboard and or graphic card.

Also remember the heatsink mounting will not fit all GPU's Heatsinks are custom for that kind of laptop and only fits limited numbers of gpu's that use the same component layout and mounting holes. I have looked at the unmounted heatsink off a Asus GTX 660m and it will not fit a Clevo GTX 680m out of my main system. it is not even close.

Now in a week i can check and see if the GTX 660m heatsink will work on a Asus GTX 670m but i never seen the GTX 670m from Asus so as of right now i cant not comment on it as it might have some slight changes due to the 660 being a kepler and the 670 being a fermi in terms of vregs and all that.

As @bignazpwns said, they are MXM - but they are proprietary, so it won't work. Don't bother trying to upgrade.

Oh Sorry, I was actually referring to this he said:

Just curious if a 670m would be able to fit in the G55VW or if ASUS would make a "upgrade" for it. No big deal, I was just curious. To have a slot just sounds like good news.
