Windows 8 - Best Driver / Firmware Combination - Rampage IV Extreme

    Hi RIVE users out there,

are there any disadvantages, stability- and/or performance issues if I use all the needed and newest Windows 8 WHQL drivers from station-drivers.com with the 2105b or 2105c firmware?

Or would it be better at this point to go with the W8 native drivers?

As most of you know the "official" drivers and firmware on the Asus website are outdated. Or are there any reasons to go with these drivers/firmware instead of the newest or the W8 native ones?

I don't want to install W8 just for testing purposes. If possible at this point I would like to completely configure my system now, instead of reinstalling W8 in a few weeks/months.

For example: Should I install the newest Intel Chipset Driver 9.3.0.1021 ?

If you think such a thread could be useful for other people as well, we could try to keep it up to date and have it all in one thread.

    Thank you.

Refer from Windows 8 Enterprise Build 9200 still used. For components from Intel camp. The driver your must update is 1. Intel 82579V Ethernet Controller 17.3 WHQL 2. Intel SATA AHCI Controller 11.6 WHQL 3. Intel Management Engine Interface 8.1.0.1263 WHQL . For ASMEDIA camp 1. ASMEDIA SATA AHCI Controller 1.3.4.0 WHQL 2. ASMEDIA USB3 Controller HUB 1.16.1.0 WHQL For Realtek HD Audio 1. Realtek HD 3.55 WHQL x64 In term of performance BIOS 2105b and 2105c provide the same performance but 2105c has debug code 40 issue when first start system after flash. I recommend use 2105b which update Intel SATA ROM 3.2.0.1022 already. Other bios is slow.

    Thanks for your help.

Why should I install the older ASMEDIA SATA AHCI Controller 1.3.4.0 instead of the newer 1.3.8.0 ?

Install all the latest drivers (I also use Station-Drivers). And like you asked, choose the Asmedia SATA 6 Controller 1.3.8.0.

    R4E3960X said to install
    2. Intel SATA AHCI Controller 11.6 WHQL 3
He meant to install Intel Rapid Storage Technology enterprise (RSTE) 3.5.0.1101 ( I highly recommend installing this driver).

Also don't forget to get the latest Realtek audio driver found here. REALTEK High Definition Audio (Azalia ALC8xx/2xx/6xx Serie)

    http://www.station-drivers.com/page/realtek_audio.htm

And no need to install Intel Management Engine Interface if you don't really need it.

I also recommend BIOS 2105B (Beware, you can only flash it VIA Flashback method (USB key)
You can find all the info about 2105B along the flashing method

Sorry mistaken , It Realtek HD Audio 6.0.1.6714 WHQL. Intel RST 11.6 always perform better than RSTe 3.5 and It also support "TRIM" under Windows 8 "optimize" your SSD drive but RSTe 3.5X don't support TRIM.
