    Hello

The x4 PCIe slot is tied to the PCH whereas the 3 x16 PCIe slots are connected to the CPU. This being the case the use of the x4 PCIe slot will have no effect on the 3 x16 PCIe slots. This info can also be found in the motherboard's manual.

Sorry, i meant the PCIe 2.0 x16 slot (that has max x4 speed). I can't use the x4 slot, because cpu cooler blocks it.

i know its been a few months since you requested this but, at the time i was too busy to put your theory to the test.

i'm currently on a week long break and decided to finally clean install Windows 8.1. voila, my 3770k is back to requiring the minimal voltage i remembered. i'm back to right around 1.18v~1.19v (previously ~1.22v) @ 4.5GHz. if my memory serves me correctly, for 4.6GHz, it should only require ~1.21v (previously ~1.24v)

i don't know what happened with that upgrade installation but, something definitely caused my CPU to require extra voltage for stability. so, i don't think it was the windows 8 OS itself that was issue, rather the upgrade installation that caused it.

A simple EK D5 X-top reservoir selling itself like cheap trash through a modest storefront window in Amsterdam.

Hey defter! Sorry i too seem to have missed your reply! But yes seems you have the same experience...clean OS install works fine just the update process seems to scramble something!
