I have the G75VW from Best buy, i upgraded the main drive to the Seagate Hybrid 750gb XT.

I play a few different MMOs, aion in particular, When i am not plugged in i have lag problems in the game. I have read this is due to the battery not being able to keep up with the power demands. I have tried various settings of the game and Nvidia settings to try and eliminate this. I have set the graphics settings to the lowest setting in game and set settings on the nvidia to go for "performance vs quality. All to no avail.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how i can fix this. If all i do is browse the web or something then there is no lag. Its just in aion or similarly graphic intensive games even at the lowest settings.

Is there away to "disable" the nvidia card and run graphics via the processor? I have seen some hints that in battery saving modes this is supposed to be the case.

hi Kara Thrace,

1. to play games with high power demands, our suggestion will always be, "play game only when the machine is plugged in." there is no way to increase the supply of battery power even if you use high performance profile in power settings while the machine is on battery.

2. the built-in graphic processor is disabled in g75. c_man has written a good guide about how to downclock the nvidia GPU to save battery power (look for Underclocking section).

@rewben, you are exactly right. Dialing down the power settings in Windows is meant to reduce power consumption when the computer is mostly idle, such as when browsing the web. Hence why you experience no lag there.

ASUS didn't use Optimus because of driver support and performance. I'm glad they went with a straight GPU in the G-series.

Don't worry, it's perfectly normal. When you plug the A/C adapter you'll get Monster Energy so you'll be at full speed then.

Yup! 🙂 Gaming is meant for being plugged into wall sockets, not running off the battery.

Will I be able to see FPS increase if I have both the battery in the laptop and the charger plugged in. I am asking because I am using my G75VX without battery (just charger)?

Charger alone is what counts. If the system detects that it is not running on battery, then it will run at full speed, provided that you are not over-loading the charger, which you shouldn't be able to do under most conditions. I have heard of people overloading the ASUS chargers, but it is not at all common.

I still think it's stupid you can't run at max power when on battery. Yeah I understand the battery would drain a lot quicker, but I don't mind. I just want to be able to play while on battery.
