Long time ASUS first time ROGer

I have the best job in the world. I design and produce attractions and media for theme parks. It's a lot of effort but it beats working! I travel all over the world to visit manufacturers and job sites. I get to play with fun toys. I travel with a VR Gear 2 in my backpack! I just rode a simulator for over 30 hours. It's like being Tom Hanks in "Big", and I try to always keep that in mind (when jet lagging, or missing my kids, or motion sick) that I do for work, what other people dream of doing on vacation.

From a ASUS / ROG standpoint, I am a real brand loyalist. I have found a lot of reliability in ASUS. I'm very impressed with the ROG badge. One of the things that keeps me coming back is what I call "connective tissue" You know, all of the stuff that goes between your named components. That's what always keeps me with ASUS. I build out my own PCs, and I love my ASUS motherboards. And, just got a ROG laptop so I could edit and composite media on the road. And with my bluetooth headphones I can barely hear the fans!

I'm the classic case of lots of experience with little actual knowledge. I have to weigh in on all of our tech implementation, but I work - in optimal cases - with very talented engineers who know way more than me. I rely so deeply on the internet-forum-based-problem solving method that I can say without YOU, the contributors to forums, I would be useless. That being said, it is surprising how many answers are out there if you just look.

Speaking of looking for answers: if you are implementing technology in China right now, or facing the task in the near future, and want to compare notes, please feel free to reach out.

    New strix user

    Hi guys!

My name is Jabberwock (not the hip hop dancers). I use this name in basically almost all the games I play. Unless if someone else stole it before I can create a character . I am new to Strix and I fell inlove with how it looks, and overall quality! I love anime and MMORPG. Currently playing guild wars 2. I hope to learn more and to customize my build. So far I have Z370-H and the the old GTX 960 by strix(1 year and counting).

    Just joined ROG forums

    hey Everyone,

Just joined the forums and wanted to say "hey". Currently buying parts for my newest build, my last build was based on an EVGA X68 FTW which still rocks but I wanted something with actual PCI3 for my new video card, EVGA GTX 1080 Ti FTW3. Thinking that I will base my new build on the ASUS Maximus X Hero wiht the 8700K cpu. Kinda just buying parts when they come on sale right now.

Most likely, when everything is purchased and the building commences I will be relying on the great people in these forums for advice.

    Glad to be on here!!

Hello, guys. Kusanagi here. I'm from Brazil, and recently I bought a Ryzen kit with a B350-F Gaming which has been giving me a terrible headache.

    Nice to meet you.

First ASUS build, only second AMD

I'm Just an old geek trying to keep up. For some reason, I decided it was time for a build. Should have done a lot more research, but with prices at the ridiculous levels they are now, I had to put some limits somewhere. With the Intel prices so high, I went with the Ryzen 7 1800x on an ASUS CROSSHAIR VI HERO.
I've never been a gamer so I had no experience with overclocking. I didn't know that the touted performance of the expensive hardware I bought only came by a lot of work and overclocking.
After all the troubles and woes I've read about, I guess I'm pretty dang lucky that after only my first, fairly aggressive attempt, my system booted and has been very stable. I must not have been quite aggressive enough, as my RealBench was just under 130,000. I'm pretty dissappointed that the rig I've built scores no better that a 6th gen i7.
I was successful in getting 32gb of Corsair Vengeance RGB (4 x 8gb) to run at 3200 MHz (16-19-19-36-55-2T), which seemed to be a big issue. I guess I was expecting (booting to an NVMe M.2 drive and with a 1080 Ti) to have to bolt it to the desk. I'm just not real impressed with the performance I'm seeing and certainly not the bang for the buck.
I do appreciate you folks that share here. It has helped.
As am I, this system will just have to be a work in progress.
    Much thanks.

Hi. I'm an aging geek retired 24 years from NASA, still living in the shadows of the launch pads.

I just lurched onto the Asus scene by buying a Max X Hero board with O/C intentions. Computer HW is not new to me, but overclocking is. I pushed an Alienware R7 as hard as I could, and decided I might do better with a build. I have a re-lidded 5.2 GHz Silicon Lottery 8700K on it, with a Noctua U14S two-fan tower (huge), a Samy SM961 PCIe ssd and an EVGA 1080ti SC2. The ram is Tridentz 2x8GB 4266 C19. I'm on this breadboarded setup now at 5.1GHz/3900MHz ram. The case is due here today.

Am having to learn how to optimize settings. The cpu will run at 5.2, avx 2, but won't support heavy files yet. Likewise, I have been able to train the ram up to 3900, but it's flaky at 4000, so seek better timing settings. It seems few are able to get a full 4133 on this board, but in a review on Newegg of my Tridentz, somebody anonymous said he did easily. If anyone is doing similar, please let me know.

Other interests: HO model trains and back-yard astronomy.
