Hi,

I know that this may seem rather trivial but I was confused as to what type of SSD to use on my V GENE board.
I read so may reviews that I got myself confused probably because of lack of knowledge, to much information and understanding of the SSD functionality. So I wrote to the ASUS Technical Support asking what would be the best device for my mobo. Here is the reply I received. I hope this helps anyone who finds themself in a similar situation.

Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for contacting ASUS Customer Service.

My name is Andrew and it's my pleasure to help you with your problem.

If so, I suggest you to use a sata III SSD.
As the msata is sata II, so the speed will be limitted in 3G, If you use USB3.0, it will be litmitted in 5G, USB 2.0 is 2.5G.

Welcome to refer Troubleshooting & FAQ for ASUS products in ASUS website:

If you continue to experience issues in the future, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Best Regards,

Andrew

Interesting, thanks for posting, So USB3.0 + Sata III SSD, is better? But depends on the SSD, too. I haven't read much, but the last thing i read was that there are 2 types of SSD; one is better/cost more, the other is good/cost less.

I see that some SSD drives are SATAIII and some are still SATAII. Usually the SATAII are cheaper. Most new boards have USB3 although limited to 2 ports in some cases which is a bit of a low. I am not really upto date with the differences between USB3 and USB2, I just want to use the more upto date device and using it as it is meant to be used.

I assume you mean SATA-III and SATA-II where you said USB 3.0 and USB 2.0, respectively. Newer mobos have quite a number of USB 3.0 ports (and SATA-III ports too), and you can get extra PCI-e cards for that (same for SATA-III).
I am disturbed because I cannot break my system...found out there were others trying to cope! We have a support group on here, if your system will not break, please join!
