need new gaming laptop

Retired
Not applicable
As the title implies I'm in need of a new laptop. I currently have a Asus G50 which works fine, but my daughter is using it for school. I was looking at the Asus G73. I have around $1500 to $1700 to spend. My question is with so many variations of the G73 which one is good for all around gaming (WOW, BF3, Diablo 3) I know last 2 are not out yet but I want to be ready. Also Does Asus make any gaming laptops with AMD processors. Thx for the help.

Hey viper,

My advice would be to take a close look at the feature list for the variants. I understand that some of them are blu ray and some aren't. I think some may not even include integrated wireless on a very low end model so make sure to have a list of features you need.

Also you should make sure to leave some money in the budget for accessories. I know that some people who end up with a protruding power connector opt for a power brick with a right angle connector and more wattage (which means the brick will be cooler under stress).

This is a quieter section of the forum here so if you haven't received useful info in a day or so just let me know and I can move your thread to the laptop sub-forum.

Welcome!
A bus station is where a bus stops. A train station is where a train stops. On my desk, I have a work station…

for under $800 you can see the Asus K501UX , it has NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950M graphics for gaming,
but if you need under $300 gaming laptop see this post http://www.touch4laptop.com/best-gaming-laptops-under-300/ maybe it will be not enough budget for maing but they are the best under that price, As for under 500 see HP 15-ay011nr it will be great for you.

I'll say what i said to another guy earlier before in another thread - Truly i say to you, please do not buy an ASUS ROG laptop. Where do i begin? My G752VY is the most unreliable laptop/pc ive ever owned/built since the 1990s.

There is the famous, constant in game stuttering. Most games suffer them though not all. There is NO solution for this and many people have returned their laptops because of this, please look it up. Ive had my g752vy for about 5 months now and already the keyboard and screen have been replaced due to failure (also very common), mind you, i treat this laptop very well, and it has almost never been moved since it was new. At the ASUS repair center there was a long queue of people sending in their laptops and smart phones, not a good sign. Ive had 2 Toshiba laptops before this and for the past 6 years, absolutely nothing has gone wrong with them, although theyve traveled with me all over the world and have been banged around ALOT (Airline crew).

Even 5 months down the road, i am still trying to find a solution, with no success. I would have returned it for my money back, months ago ,but in Malaysia where i am, there are no such things as refunds, returns, or generally consumer rights.

Besides the poor hardware quality fitted on these laptops, here are a few links showing how widespread the stuttering is -

Notice on all these ROG threads, no one can seem to help them?

These are only a few problems, there is light bleed on the screen, the also famous ROG popping sounds from the speakers, and just too many other issues i dont have the strength to type about. My advice, build your own gaming rig if you really dont need a laptop. If you do need a gaming laptop, i suggest Alienware or MSI instead, the only reason so many people buy ROG laptops is that its the cheapest option. I made that mistake and i regret it everyday. (Where i am, the ASUS ROG is much cheaper than MSI or Alienware)

Not all games suffer from the stutter, but most do. It really is a game breaker. Seriously, please do not make the same mistake as i did.

Seconding that, you can find my post in the other thread.

For that price range, I'd recommend getting a 1050(when/if they're out) or you can definitely afford a 1060 in 17". Not ASUS however...and ACER has a bad uefi implementation that wreaks havoc with Veracrypt, so I can't really recommend them either.

MSI, Lenovo, Sager(clevo with better support), HP G series (when they're refreshed with 10 series workstation cards) etc.

Last of all, AMD won't have any worthwhile offering until maybe the new cpu/gpus come out in 2017, we will see. I look forward to this because AMD is our only chance to get mobile ECC for a real price (not $3000-scam, ecc costs the same as no ecc in desktops, all the chips support it but they disable it then charge $2000 extra for laptops supporting it). After all my years I've learned ECC should be mandatory, and Microsuck should have mandated it for qualification. It might cost 10-20 bucks more but it saves large amounts of hassle if you use computers longer than warranty period (hell, even in warranty period) because memtest86 is garbage and can't even detect confirmed bad ram over days.

Seriously you all are posting to a 5 1/2 year old Post. I just got a G752VY DH 72 $1599.00
