So just to comment on the whole recovery disc thing, ultimately it has to do with changes Microsoft made to Windows 8. It's being looked into on our end to try and devise some way to get recovery discs for the eStore and that will also likely filter into bundled software for creating recovery media.

You can, of course, always try using Microsoft's recovery tool which is built into Windows.

@cl-scott, yeah; MS is trying something at the recovery level; but they should stop treating everything as mobile devices.

Create Rescue & Recovery Disks for Windows 8 G75VX

Okay for reference the WIM file you are looking for is on the last partition, it goes:
    EFI,
Recovery ( has a few files on it ),
    Visible C Drive,
Recovery Partition (HIDDEN) on which there is one directory containing an 11 gig WIM file.

I have copied this WIM file out of that partition.

I have exchanged my Hitachi 500 GIG drive for another 1G drive identical to the installed Seagate ( Samsung M8 ) and put the Hitachi in a nice safe box for later, I have Imaged the contents of the drive on Bus 0 to Bus 1, after which I changed the desktop wallpaper so I can tell which system Ive booted onto, both systems are boot able and swap C and D accordingly on reboot to the other drive.

I am now in the perfect position to test rescue and recovery disks that we create because I can just image back in the case of failure.

Who wants to help me fix this ASUS created problem by telling me how to create the image?, you tell me how Ill do the work and tell you if it works or not.

a nice project! maybe we can come out with a tool to do all this recovery thing by ourselves

actually the documentation at http://technet.microsoft.com/library/hh824947.aspx could give someone some ideas for this purpose (i checked the one for w7 previously for ideas to get things done). i do not have the access to the contents in the hidden recovery partition for w8, so there is little that i can learn about the process.

one of my problems that i thought of (just thinking out of the blue when i read the documentation) is how to set up the f9 recovery.

edit: oh i missed the changes section. found it.

Here is how to get access to the WIM on the recovery partition without changing anything to do with partitions.
    1) Download Macrium Reflect Free Edition
    2) Create an image of the Recovery partition only
    3) Mount the Recovery Partition Image
    4) when the image is displaying its contents Navigate to the directory with the WIM file in it
    5) Right click over the file.
    6) Select Copy
    7) Right click on Desktop
    8) Select paste.

    * Caveat I can not remember if I copied and pasted the image with Macrium Reflect or Arconis True Image but the image files when mounted with a windows drive letter seem compatible with each other, also this can be done with the other partitions on the disk as well.

You now have access to all the files without changing a single piece of partition structure.

*** I have downloaded the necessary kits from Microsoft and am presently attempting to write the .WIM file to USB3 memory stick, I will then completely obliterate my primary drive, remove the secondary and attempt a rescue and recovery off of the USB - it will probably fail but well see what happens.
