Well I have been Designing a System i can use for my needs eventually it the concept of lowering cost i have no data storage drive in build. waiting for them to be beter price. one the things i wanted with this is a surround monitor setup. sadly the best single card solution aside from a $1,000.00 GTX 690 is the ROG Radeon 7970 wich is exactly 1/2 the cost. i hope chris realizes this build needs to be practical to me and pray he dosent come and haunt me for it. but below is my build idea.

Edit: i updated my build for the GamerGirlAlice's AMD Gaming WorkStation. it is now in the main post above. i made some consolidation to run 5x1 (5400x1920). but i think it will make me very happy. the basic parts being bought after i have all my monitors.

I'm not sure drive prices are going to come down anytime soon. They've been high ever since the flooding. You could always pick up used drives from people looking to upgrade. A 1 TB drive is still pretty respectable and there are people dumping them for 3TB units.

i dont expect them to go down much, but concentrating on geting up and running. eventually i want to put a raid 10 array of 4x 4TB WD Black drives. they finally made them but only place i seen them is newegg.

Yeah, that was my thought. I just didn't want you to wait too long because you can always add more storage or migrate to new storage later.

Which in her case is $320...an extra drive. 🙂

dose anyone know if a single ASUS MATRIX-HD7970-P-3GD5 has enough horsepower to power a 5x1 (5400x1920) at decent FPS? or should i invest in dual crossfire cards to ensure it has enough?

Well, from what I calculated, assuming you need 20 frames in the video card for smooth motion, you use ~800 MB. Should be enough, and as far as I know, Xfire/SLI duplicate the data, they don't actually give you more framebuffer memory. All you get is more compute power, which may be what you need more.
