Hello, everybody! I would like to know your opinion about these 2 monstrous Intel processors. Which one would you choose? Maybe standing next to an ARES II :D?

Yeah, also the 3930K and 3770K. Great overclocking and great stock performance.

Well, do not mix the 3770k here... that's a totally different thing... - 3770k is Ivy Bridge, while the 3930k, 3960X and 3970X are Sandy Bridge Extreme... IB is 4 cores, SBE is 6 cores...

Regarding the original question - how is your cooling? the 3970X is running hotter than the 3960X... not sure if there is to much improvement on the 3970X...

You are right, sir.

Alex I thought Intel was going to release their latest Ivy Bridge-E chip later this year. http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/cpu/display/20120801230642_Intel_to_Release_Next_Generation_High_End_Iv... If you don't need a chip now, maybe waiting a while will reap some goodies. I might go IB-E later this year too.

Your maximum overclock is going to be the same with either processor unless you are going sub zero with either of the two CPU's you originally mentioned.

Both are good, the 70 is gaining favour with OC's so go for that one.
To help us help you - please provide as much information about your system and the problem as possible.

I never wait to purchase a PC, I get what I need when I need it.
