Video Card decision for rig

Between the ASUS GeForce GTX690, PowerColor Radeon 7990, or Radeon 7970 GHz Edition X 2

$1100 is the budget so I could get any of these, I have been using Radeons since the 9800 Pro, but was thinking about switching back to the Green Team especially since physics is used in a lot of games these days and the idea of buying a nvidia card anyway in conjunction with a radeon to get physics seems like a waste of $$$ to me

and the 690s are a lot more easily available for purchase unlike the "limited" Matrix 7970 Platinum or "impossible to get one" Ares II

I haven't used Nvidia since the GeForce 4 days so I am not as familiar with then as I used to be.

Any advice?

If you have space for SLI skip the 690, not worth the money. If you want to try nVidia out go SLI with either the 670 or 680 as these in SLI perform better than a 690. For AMD xfire with the 7970 GHz edition unless you're able to find a Ares 2 or PowerColor Devil 13 for the same reason as the Nvidia cards.

The limited editions cards have always been if your supplier can secure one from proper channels.
Keep in mind 999 of these cards are only available worldwide.

The downside to these cards is if you have issues with it, ASUS may not even be able to replace it down the road, say months after it's release.

NewEgg usually is able to get a few but you usually have to buy their recommended system setup to get the card, such as you have to buy a CPU, case, motherboard, memory and the card. Usually comes out to $3-4K before taxes and shipping.

well $1100 wont buy one. I "heard" they are upwards of $1600 US dollars. your best bet is SLI 670/680

The verdict is 2 of these:

ASUS GTX680-DC2-4GD5 GeForce GTX 680 4GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121705

Does not show an SLI bridge in the pic as included though, I have ROG one from my Crosshair V though, hope u only need one, cause if I need 2 then, well yeah...

My vote goes to 7970......

For being a easy overclocker, not green, and price is lower than the 680

Ares II is available here in Sweden, now..

But the pricetag is hefty

was thinking about the 680 but i is $590 for the good asus card, whereas the 7970 is $429 for the xfx GHz Edition, (asus no longer makes 7970's) so yeah...

Has anyone else notices that ASUS favors Nvidia over AMD they certainly do put out a lot higher quantity geforce cards than radeon "limited run" crap, they need to continue to make 7970's until the 8970 comes out in the summer, drives me crazy...

those were the ones I'm getting as long as they are still in stock this Wednesday (IRS $$ hits the bank)

of course the 6GB Sapphire 7970 GHz do cost the same amount of $$$ for 2 GB more per card

Asus does not include any sli bridges...
