my brother got an HP laptop, i dont know which one, which is pretty recent with a 2630QM processor, i got an Asus G53JW with i7 Q740. can i swap processor? I mean if I remove the 2630Qm from the HP, will it fit into my G53JW? and will the G53JW's i7 Q740 fit in the HP?

I dont think the JW's chipset the HM55 supports Sandy Bridge processors...

The 2630QM is a second gen i7, and is not compatible with 1st gen motherboards, so no you cannot swap. You can however get an i7 920XM or 940XM and overclock that chip really well, since it's an unlocked chip.

So would swapping the 740 for the 920 or 940 give you the capability to add more than 8gb of ram on the g53jw or does the mobo limit that amount of ram?
