What could you see on the fins the copper underneath? or black? Did you poke it with something to make sure it wasn't deposits on the fins?

Well, by problems I meant actual corrosion problems. If you are simply missing some of the nickel plating then that's unfortunate but the exposed material is going to be copper so switching to a pure copper block without plating is going to help how? That's what I don't understand about what you are asking.

I could clearly see copper and in the center a relatively small black deposit, so I scratched the deposit and cleaned it with i dont even remember what I used. That's it.

Maybe im not understanding it well but I thought since nickel and copper are different metals thats why its eating out the nickel plating on top, but when it would be copper with copper it should be fine? Im sorry if im making it harder

Yes and no. They use Nickel because it has some of the lowest galvanic corrosion issues with copper but as Arne stated it's pretty much inevitable. The only 100% resistant combination is the exact same metal. The problem with that is while Copper is the material of choice for thermal conduction it tends to oxidize (standard corrosion, not galvanic). So they plate it to prevent common oxidation and choose nickel for the low galvanic potential.

So your ideal would be another nickel plated block *without* a compromised finish but I'm not sure I would worry about it. The pumps we use for desktops are pretty hearty so unless you have visible particles in your loop you should be OK. Replacing a part every time you see a minor flaw is going to be more expensive than just running them until you start having actual problems.

Now I understand what Arne was talkin about when he mentioned that copper is going to oxidize by itself. Thank You guys. You were of much help here! Cheers

Hey guys. Today I took apart my watercooling loop. Also opened cpu and gpu waterblocks. The pictures included show where corrosion is. Doesnt look very nice whats the best stuff to clean that thing? And would my cpu waterblock be okay if from now on i just refill fresh distilled water say like once in two months?

To be honest, that isn't too bad.. I've seen an awful lot worse.

To clean it, I just use vinegar / water and a toothbrush.

Make sure you properly clean every part of your loop (including res and rad) before you put it all back together.

Yeah, I'd agree, nothing really wrong there...you are always going to see some corrosion or discoloring etc. if you have been running for a while. Any mild acid will clean that up...a bit of vinegar...or lemon juice...put it back together and refresh your de-ionized water regularly and Bob's your uncle....

The only thing that i hate there is the black stuff that accumulated which blocks the flow of water. Will do some cleaning today. Thanks for responses guys
