Hi all,
Well its been two weeks and the problem still persists. I applied the 1302 BIOS and cleared the CMOS as suggested but that hasn't helped.
I have noticed that when this issue occurs the Q-CODE LED moves through the various codes during the startup sequence very, very slowly. I left it for over an hour on the weekend and it had eventually moved to Q-CODE 99. I can usually tell very quickly if the issue occurs because the laser on my mouse does not turn on, and the fans on my GPUs do not start.
As soon as I press the reset button the Q-CODE progresses very quickly through the various codes, the laser on the mouse turns on and the GPU fans start.
I've tried another power supply but that didn't change anything.
The issue only seems to occur if the computer has been turned off for an hour or more. If I am in Windows and restart then the system boots fine. If I shut it down, wait 10-20 seconds, then power it back on it boots fine. It's only when the system has been off for a longer period.
On the weekend I started having issues with my 2TB SATA drive, Windows Explorer would lock up when accessing the drive and it would disappear from Disk Manager. I purchased a replacement 3TB drive which I installed yesterday, I was hoping that possibly the drive was faulty and causing the POST issues, but this hasn't change anything. I've also tried different SATA cables but that made no difference.
The only other thing I can think of is the memory, particularly since when the issue occurs and I then reset the system is I get the "Memory Tested OK!" message in the POST and have to enter the BIOS and save the settings (even though everything was at default and I haven't changed anything).
The memory I have is the Corsair Vengeance 16GB Dual/Quad Channel DDR3 (4x4GB) - CMZ16GX3M4A2133C9R. This is the memory:
http://www.corsair.com/en/vengeance-16gb-dual-channel-ddr3-memory-kit-cmz16gx3m4a2133c9r.html.
I have checked the HCL for the Forumla-Z and this exact model of memory is not listed. I would expect the Q-CODE would give me an error code related to the memory if it was an issue, but the "Memory Tested OK!" message each time is throwing me off.
I really don't want to have to purchase other RAM, but it's the only thing I can think of, to order memory that is on the HCL.
What do you guys think?
Thanks,
Chris
