Crosshair V GENE: Let's make it a reality!

Cyrekk
Level 10
Hello everyone on the ROG Forums! In a follow up to "The next GENE and Formula?!" thread, and my post within, I am starting this thread to draw more awareness to our interest in having a Crosshair GENE motherboard developed. Specifically a Crosshair V GENE, in the here and now. I am also starting the thread so that we will have one place to voice our interest, questions, and comments relating to the board as I have seen them strewn about the forum up until this point.

To start things off, I have taken some time to read through "The next GENE and Formula" thread to pick up on some of the suggestions already proposed in terms of features, and developed a proposed spec sheet, including some suggestions of my own. This sheet is based on the Crosshair V Formula spec sheet for accuracy and familiarity. If anyone has any suggestions for changes, please post them and we can look at adding them to this sheet! This sheet will be located in my second post below.

I will also add a poll so that we can keep a tally of how many users want this board to be made, making it easier for ASUS to see at a glance the level of interest in the potential product.

If we still do not have a Crosshair GENE by the time Crosshair VI series is released, we can continue our efforts for a GENE in that series!

I'm missing the following on the CrossHair V ( hardware related 😞

- more internal usb ports ( CH5 has 4 usb 2.0 + 2 usb 3.0, being that the the usb 3.0 connector needs some expensive adapter to be usable ). I need at least 6 internal usb 2.0 ports. ( I solved this with a lian-li internal usb 3.0 to female usb plug + a male usb cable to pinheader. The solution costed me 60$.
- add embeded fan to the mosfets heatsink that can be temperature controled in bios.
- add more onboard sata ports. CH5 has 7 onboard sata ports, but I need at least 8.
- add another intel gigabit lan port to be able to use teaming on the ports.
- add an internal firewire port ( CH5 has none )
- add an external firewire port ( CH5 has none )

Some of these features have been left out on the proposed spec I built because of the mATX form factor, that said it should be able to rock the firewire on the back, the internal header might be hard to fit (Though Firewire is hardly used these days). Dual lan might be possible on the build, but it might get tricky, and will likely kill a couple USBs. Traditionally an mATX board is used in smaller cases, where an 8th SATA port would likely be superfluous, but that said it could be doable. Adding more USB headers inside could be tricky on the SFF. As far as the USB3 header adapter, most case manufacturers are giving them out like candy now, so I'm not sure why anyone would buy one.

That said, I will add some notes to the spec, and solidify them if they are highly/frequently demanded.

Sorry Cyrekk. My Fault. I'm not familiar with the GENE specs and ended up making a list of the stuff I miss!

haha, it's all good! The plain fact is that any features missed on the formula would be nice to see on the following iterations! I am simply trying to remain pragmatic about what we could have on an mATX form factor, while maintaining a best case scenario when deciding between A or B when both cannot be true. 🙂 thanks for the input!

I rise in support of Cyrekk's efforts to encourage Asus to develop the perfect Crosshair V GENE.
An AMD mATX that ROG's.
After reviewing the above list, I can not, at the moment come up with any addition. Cyrekk has put
a great deal of thought into this one...and ASUS I must say, 'If you build it, we WILL ROG it.'
Asus, now come on, you just posted record earnings..we entrust you with our hard scratched for money..all we ask in return is give us what we drool for.
(And none of that GENE/Thunderbolt 3 months later stuff..some of us are still trying to swallow that
little bit of throw up we have in our mouths from the V Formula..knock that stuff off.)
Thank You.c.

Only 6 SATA ports? I prefer to have an abundance.

How about 6 SATA 6Gpbs coming from the SB 950 chipset, then have 4 SATA 3Gpbs coming off a separate controller, then 2 E-SATA and the 1 header for connectors to use 2 more.

Wow haha, use lots of drives do we? Seems like an awful lot of ports for an mATX board! What makes you want so many ports? out of curiosity.

I support for more SATA ports.

At least 8 (6 SATA III and 2 SATA II). Preferably all right angled.

And at least Six 3.0 USB at the back of the mobo with two sets on the header.

And dual BIOS (if its possible).
