Crosshair V Formula-Z 990FX - Ram choice?

Hello guys!

I'm new to this forum and I need your well appreciated help. Above mentioned motherboard will be one of the major parts in my new gaming rig. The right selection of DDR3-Rams causes severe headaches... 😄

I'm actually planning to buy 2x8 Gb (16GB) of Rams, and I'm considering the Kingston HyperX Beast with 2133Mhz or 2400Mhz or the ADATA 16 GB XPG X Series 2133Mhz as participants in my final decision. Eventually I'd also consider Corsair Dominator Platinum with the same Mhz, but they are too pricey in my book.

So folks, the question is this: has anybody got any experience with these selection of Ram's? Would you suggest anything else (lower Mhz capacity, other manufacturers,...)?

The main reason for using this rig is pure gaming and the system should be stable. My CPU will be the AMD FX-8350 Vishera.

Thanks for your help, guys!

Welcome to the Republic of Gamers forum, aficionado.

If gaming is the main purpose for your system, then 1600MHz is the way to go. You can even get 1866MHz if want to. But anything faster is just a waste of money and won't give you any significant gains.

I'm using a 2x4GB Corsair Dominator GT kit at 2133MHz CL9 - and it works perfectly...

I think, 2400MHz would be too much for that system... I mean, it may handle it, but that depends greatly on the memory controller you get in the CPU... - besides, in gaming I don't think you would see too much difference between 1600-1866-2133-2400MHz...

So, if you're on tight budget, just get a 1600MHz kit... - but double check the QVL... or post the exact models you're looking at and we can check it for you...

You'll have more success running 2133/2400 MHZ on only 2 sticks of RAM, though, the timings may have to be relaxed a little to achieve those clock speeds...and if you use 4 sticks of RAM to try for those speeds, you may have some difficulty, unless you have a great CPU/IMC combination. But, as I stated, get a kit of 2 sticks and you'll be laughing...even if you're only getting RAM at those speeds for bragging rights 😛

And keep the motherboard bios latest version get the better hardware performance and improve system stability.

Ok guys, thanks for your inputs and the nice welcome - I already love this board!!

What I've seen so far is that for gaming, Mhz aren't that much of a priority. The point is that the price difference between standard Ram's and the high-end ones isn't that much of an issue. To clarify my questions, I'd like to post some links and if somebody has an idea or two, just let me know. Don't be irritated by the German language, since I'm Austrian nad the site is Austrian too, but I believe that you folks understand the specs.

Ok, here we go:

I'm using these from Crucial with no issue but don't see them offered where you posted unfortunately.

Duplicate post sorry. I didn't realize I had to wait for mod approval 😮

Quick question concerning the QVL (Memory) posted on the Asus-site: the tested ram's are truly 100% compatible with the Crosshair V Formula-Z or could it be possible that the mentioned Ram's won't work properly in some cases?
