Best advice is to try different ones in a shop.

I can always say get the same mouse as me, as I find it great (Nova X600 Slider) but its a right hand mouse, it has ceramic feet and on the speed surface of a Razer Exact Mat, I have had to slow down the mouse in most games as it goes way too fast.

Keyboards are the same, you could go and buy the "best" gaming keyboard in the world, pay hundreds of $/£/€ for it and not feel comfortable using it.

I have found that most of the stuff I buy is usually after annoying someone at a LAN to test theirs

I think ROCCAT has a pretty cool new mechanical keyboard out for gaming, although i have not taken a good look at it to see how it really is. I personally use the Razer Blackwidow Ultimate ME3 Edition, and I am loving it so far.

Don't get a death 2013 at all. I'm on my 3rd one in 5 weeks due to mouse1 not getting recognized but its own drivers/windows. Best buy return policy is great, razor would have told you it was user error.

If you want to be a true hardcore gamer, play with a handicap I currently use a generic Dell French keyboard while knowing nothing of the french language at all :P hahaha jk i honestly only have it because it only cost me a few dull pennys as some local computer store accidentally ordered it having not known it was French. I imagine the potential market in my community for such a keyboard is about 3 people who probably will never visit the computer store. haha

just picked up a razer blackwidow kb, I like the mechanical "click".......don't judge me...... As for a mouse, I have gone through 2 different cyborg RAT 9 mice, IMHO stay away from them, I went back to my trusty death adder and have not looked back. Just my 2c.

Mechanical switches, MX. I played with the red, blue, black, and brown and liked the MX Brown the best. So got a CMStorm keyboard about a week ago with the MXBrowns. So far, I'm liking it. Nothing beats mechanical switches, and the board has lighted keys in RED; you can even set it so that only the WASD keys light. It's also a 'traditional' layout; I looked at keyboards with all kinds of extra keys, detachable/movable sections, all kinds of junk, but as I WASD+mouse, simpler is better, and I have the macro keys on the left for anything special. Even has a USB port that I use a memstick with. My mouse is the Logitech G700, again, nothing fancy, I can run it wired or wireless, it does not look like a cyborg, and it uses regular rechargeable AA batteries.
