So it took my 10 MONTH old asus g53sx 8 minutes to boot up/start up, and this message appeared "failed to prepare critical file chameleon engine out of service" -What does this mean and how do I fix this? I usually just unplug and plug it again when starting up takes so long ,(I know thats bad but sometimes I get impatient) but today I decided to wait and like I said that message appeared and I just clicked OK, then it started up normally. Can someone help me please? How do I fix this? thank you.:D

That error means the little chameleon that provides power inside your laptop is taking a break. Kinda like the GEICO Gecko...

See http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?10561-ASUS-Splendid-Video-Enhancement-Technology for more information on how to get him back to work.

HINT: UNinstall the ASUS Splendid utility, reboot, and reinstall it. OR NOT - Splendid is not required for your laptop to function properly.

It may be worthwhile to run CHKDSK on all the drives of your laptop (particularly C: ) to correct file corruption that has likely occurred from unplugging your laptop while it is in use. This is likely the cause to your slow startup issue.

One of the cool things about the Internet and Web Browsers is you can get answers to questions just by typing them in the Browser search box, then clicking on the hits to find the answer.

For example, I type "Download ASUS Splendid" and the first hit is http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CC8QFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fsupport.asus.com%2Fdow.... This will allow you to download the most recent version.

ASUS Splendid is also available on the "Applications and Drivers" CD that was included with your laptop and is in the "eDrivers" folder on the ASUS Factory Windows installation on your HDD.

If I type "How do I use CHKDSK on Windows 7", I find http://www.w7forums.com/use-chkdsk-check-disk-t448.html in the hits.

Don't be afraid to enlist the aid of your more computer literate friends to help you. We'll also be here to try and answer your questions.

I already did. But before that I followed what dstrakele said "HINT: UNinstall the ASUS Splendid utility, reboot, and reinstall it. OR NOT - Splendid is not required for your laptop to function properly." So I uninstalled it and downloaded the splendid
(http://www.asus.com/supportonly/Splendid/#support_Download_29) with the link you guys gave me, it has 94 utilities I downloaded all of that, then extracted it. but then things got worse. Every time I start my computer these 3 messages appear :

1. This program can only be executed on an asus computer
2.Cant open ACPI ATK0100 Kernel mode driver
3.You have to install ATK0100 driver

Please help anybody how can I fix this?

The errors you report indicate the ASUS ATK Package (a group of drivers that control Function Key functionality - including the Function Key shortcut to launch Splendid) is either not installed or corrupt.

UNinstall your current ATK Package from Windows Control Panel, REBOOT, and reinstall the ATK Package.

Thanks for replying. I already uninstalled the ATK package and after that downloaded the new one with the link you gave me,http://support.asus.com/download.aspx?SLanguage=en&p=3&s=110&m=Splendid&os=29&hashedid=n/a and extracted it and it still doesnt work, it shows something "another version is intalled, remove it in control panel"-which I already did, but it still keeps showing up. So what I did is I just used m ASUS CD installer Driver and utility version 2.0, and after that the errors where gone except for the Chameleon file didnt load thingy still keeps appearing.

Too add, there where 4 that needed to be installed from the CD but 2 failed the installation, NVISIA physx utility and Trend Micro security 2011 titanium. I have another CD here as well which came when I bought this laptop but It says "Drivers and Utility Version 1.0, so Im guessing this is the older one compared to the other CD version 2.0? I should just ignore this right?

Also Asus live Update appears and says Bios Drivers V9.2.0.458, and is asking me if I should download them , should I download it? Coz last I heard asus live update causes problems. Sorry for the long post, please help.
