Forget about RAID, I noticed that BNaughty doesn't have the IRST in his driver list in this post

So what is the consensus here? to install the IRST or just stick to the Intel Chipset Drivers only?

If not using RAID, the msahci.sys 6.1.7601.17514 driver is very good.

Install it, I couldn't get my laptop to recognize any of my HDD's without the driver installed.

Sorry, I just realized this was in the laptop section. My opinion may not be applicable.

i think if you are not make RAID, you don't need install it.

The Intel Rapid Storage Technology service is not needed for a non-raid system.

The RST driver is still however used for the AHCI controller if it's not using the Microsoft msahci driver that comes with Windows 7.

So you do need the driver, but not the 'service'. From what I've read people go with the Intel driver.

When I installed Win 7 on my G75VW that originally came wiht win 8, i ignored the IRST drivers. But i immediately noticed that when i was copying files to an from the hdd and maybe watching a video, the video was stuttering like mad.

This problem disappeared after i installed the IRST driver.

yes i installed irst driver (i have a non-raid system; so it's ahci only), and update it when a new one is out.
