new Maximus V Extreme and ASUS/Intel ME upgrade software fail

just wanted to point out that the latest version of ASUS branded Intel ME firmware upgrader (IntelME81_Updating_Tool_V10001) in ASUS Downloads section is useless on *new* M5E boards.

It seems that the tool under WIn8 x64 when executed on a brand new M5E board just cannot run and just hangs, actually it makes the whole Intel ME Interface Driver (latest version from Windows Update) just hang until system is restarted LOL!

it won't update anything or check anything, it won't notify user what firmware revision the board has, it simply won't do crap, it will just hang on message "do NOT restart" and will do that forever without any progress bar.
on a side note, it's safe to close the app from Task Bar (right click and close), but system needs to be restarted still, otherwise Intel ME driver stays unresponsive even in command line updater mode (no IME driver detected).

another thing is that I tried manually updating M5E IME firmware on a new board (friend's build), straight after restart and IME driver was working fine (which means the ASUS updater was screwing it up in earlier instances) using this command line executed in folder of downloaded app (latest IME fw updater from ASUS):
FWUpdLcl64.exe -f Data.bin -generic

... and it asked me specifically if I really want to DOWNGRADE to 8.1.0.1248 firmware ... which brings me to conclusion that new M5E boards are shipping with NEWER than 8.1.0.1248 revision of firmware.

Now, why there is no IME updater for all of us running M5E boards, so we can all have the same revision?

also worth noting that Intel Gigabit eth firmware (NVM update) is already applied on new M5E boards, so no need to do that either 🙂
