Hey guys! I have used my Asus G75VX since January and I love it!! However, there is just 1 problem... I didn't need blu-ray and 3D vision, so I got the cheaper version. It has a 5400-RPM Hitachi HDD inside. I watched some of Linus's videos on LinusTechTips and he says that SSDs are worth it and they are super fast, super reliable blah blah... but, other than all of this talking and blabbering, can someone tell me, in their own experience whether they really help in everyday tasks. TIA!!

My Asus G75VX specs(If you need it):
CPU: Intel Core i7 3630QM 2.4 GHZ
Ram: 24Gbs(8gb stock ram, 16gb free upgrade by the department store i got it from)
HDD: Hitachi 5400-RPM (500,750,1000gb I forgot..)
Display: 17.3" 1920x1080p non-3D

What I use it for(I am only 13, so I mainly use it for gaming 😞
-Gaming(TF2, BF3, Simcity, Sims 3...)
-Programming - Python(Trying to learn)
-School projects

SSD are extremely fast compared to old spindles. You 5400 spindle drive (mine did anyway) read 68mbs and write 41. My Samsung 840 pro reads 560mbs and write 494 roughly. Boots windows in about 2 seconds and loads bf3 maps in 5'ish seconds...

@iceballfunela, oh my.. learning python at the age of 13? good for you 🙂

yeah it's good to have a ssd for your g75vx. a 5400rpm hdd is just dragging the laptop all the way down in terms of performance.

When having a SSD, with windows 8 and fast boot activated, the boot is really fast !

Not 2 seconds fast. Maybe 15 seconds, as that's what I get.

With Windows 8 I get about 3 sec boot from the moment the RoG logo is on the screen to logged in. From pressing the power button to Windows is about 6. 8 does boot a lot faster than 7 on an SSD due to startup changes.

Wow, that's impressive. And yes, I'm on Windows 7, so that's why I don't get those kind of speeds. It's 15 seconds from power button to Windows Login screen for me. That's still fast for me.

Hey I get about 8 to 9 seconds for a boot, and I'm on Windows 8? Is that even good?

Nope. My laptop is on the Desktop before I even think about booting it...
