New challenge for PC gaming connoisseurs: who can spec the best PC (base unit) for gaming for between $399-$499?

No 'ebay deals', just retail outlets. I'm interested to see what people can find 😄

$511. if you scriunge an optical drive off your cousin.....$20 more if not

But really this excercise is a bit moot since you are not paying the price of the console up front....you pay it when you buy the games...so the price of purchase is nicely subsidised. At this price I might just buy the console....

And which console would you buy? Sony's for the gamers, by the gamers PS4...or Microsoft's constant surveillance, even when turned off, needs to connect to the net at least every 24 hours XBOX One?

OK imagine this scenario....me and JC, my Lord and savior are catching a few left hand breaks in St Francis bay...when all of a sudden I am struck by lightning and attacked by a great white shark at the same time.....

Calculate the probability and that's still more likely than I would ever buy a console....but if I did, it would be a PS4 no doubt. I am of the opinion that Microsoft do not want to be in the console business anymore so they made the Xbox One.....

Imagine the scenario above in which I cut back and use the tip of the board to redirect the lightning to kill the shark and then surf past Sally Fitzgibbons who hands me her phone number with a wink...that's the likelihood I ever buy an Xbox One.

But that's also the likelyhood I buy a $500 computer to play Metro Last Light;)

This kinda goes out of the price range you posted, but I do love the hardcore engineering that went behind this. http://xi3.com/index.php
