    Thunderbolt on all G750?

    Hello,

It was confusing for the G75...
For the G750, how to be sure there is Thunderbolt?
    With logo? With sticker?
Is there some G750 models whithout Thunderbolt?

Will G750 Thunderbolt port compatible with next Thunderbolt generation?

    Thanks.

I think every haswell laptop has that port.

Thunderbolt 2 is a hardware change. It's backwards compatible, not forward.

Check for a port on the side that looks like the mini displayport. That is the "Thunderbolt" port. Thunderbolt is, in reality, just Apple's name for Intel's Lightpeak technology.

As far as I know, yes, (but don't take that as rubber stamp) but to be sure they have little TB stickers on the side of the chassis to let you know for certain.

I'm not sure whether they will be upgraded to TB2 in Q4, too early to say yet.

Intel integrated Thunderbolt into the chipset, but it's still up to the laptop manufacturer to route and add a Thunderbolt port. So no, not every Haswell laptop comes with such a port.

I would like to hold your feet to the fire over that one, lol. The better you make the ROG hardware, the more people who will buy it - provided that you don't change the awesome pricetag...

If TB is integrated into the chipset, does it mean that resourceful people could add a Thunderbolt port directly on the chipset? (Voiding warranty, of course...)

Resourceful people with the ability to cut circuit traces into a motherboard, the surface-mount-solder robots, and the related just might be able to pull it off, though I wouldn't count on it. It would require you to be able to cut in more signal lines to the southbridge of the chipset, which would be essentially impossible.

However, if all the circuit traces are there, just the physical connector is not, you might be able to do it. Don't take this as a recommendation to try though.

It's not integrated into the CPU or chipset, Thunderbolt is a separate chip.

No end users can add it post-sale as it requires certification and licensing from Intel.
