Rampage IV Extreme - Will not TURN ON

Hi Guys,

I need some thoughts as to what the problem could be here.

The other day I was using the PC fine playing a game. Switched it off shutdown FINE.

2 days later (Yesterday) I pressed the power button on my Cooler Master HAF X and nothing happend.

I thought thats odd, checked the POWER and the motherboard Start Button / Reset button was lit up. SO I took the side off the CASE and attempted to start the PC with the START Button. This also failed.

I took the large PSU cable off the motherboad thinking maybe PSU problem and I got a paperclip and started the PSU up no problem. I put the cable back to the motherboard and still NO GO.

Details of my system are in signature. Any ideas? I reset both BIOS, switched from BIOS 1 to BIOS 2 still no luck.

I see no signs of burning on MB and water levels were at the usual level.

Cheers.

There's another thread about similar symptoms, have you checked that?

Hi,

Yes I just saw that thread and had a good read of it.. nothing really jumped out at me as to the cause / fix.

PCs at home I'm at work now will have a play later when I get home. First idea is to pull all cards out / power cables n try a bare start. if no go will remove mobo from case.

Sounds like an RMA, this has been happening a lot to these MBs.

Have you done a complete clear of CMOS?

I would reseat the CPU and see if that helps.

If not RMA the board.
To help us help you - please provide as much information about your system and the problem as possible.

Hi,

Just to let you know I think the problems been solved.

Clearing CMOS etc DID NOT WORK.

However replacing the battery did the trick.

I have to re fill the loop n test again this afternoon.

I have the same problem. If I leave it turned off for sometime, it will not post. I haven't turned off my machine except for once to see if the problem was recurring. Would it be possible for you to, shutdown your computer for sometime and see if the problem persists even with the new battery? Also turn off the mains or PSU so there is no power to the board? Please try and then post back here. Would really appreciate it as I am currently shopping for a new board because of this problem. And then return my R4E.

I will also try with a new battery.

Hi Counteragent. I had the same problem. I am glad you solved yours quickly as mine took 2 months:p
FAME IS A MASK THAT EATS INTO THE FACE

Hi, I had this same issue, started happening around 10 months after getting the R4E...........tested the cmos battery with a multi metre and it read 2.8v so I replaced the battery with a new on that read 3.33v and the problem is now solved.

So to reiterate - the non boot issue where the start button on the board is light but system won't boot is easily fixed by replacing the cmos battery
