Easy question about Turbo boost..

How do I control turbo boosts individual speed boots per core? Cause right now it automatically boots all the way up to 3.8ghz even when all cores are active (3930k) and its a little hot for my liking (hovering between (60-70c) under load, even touching low 70's on prime). I know when I used to turn turbo boost off temps would never go that high.

Basically how can I set each cores turbo boost manually or not have them all boost to 3.8 to keep temps down.

Seriously nobody knows how to control the turbo boost by core? rather than letting all the cores boost to 3.8 all at once on the 3930k? Theres gotta be a way..

Well, defaults in BIOS should have them run 3.5 all together.....but I think if you set XMP then you get this free overclock of all cores to 3.8.

You can however set "per core" ocing in the BIOS.....

There is a way of course and it is covered in the bios, and thank you to DragonClaw for posting the link to the guide.

I am however not sure why one would want to disable or cripple the performance of this CPU? One does not have the same temperature output in real world as compared to a stress test or as whitepaw calls it cooking the cpu. I would suggest that the cooler you are using may be possibly in need of upgrading the LGA2011 processors push out a fair amount of heat from their cores.
To help us help you - please provide as much information about your system and the problem as possible.

If i understood correctly, then you asked if it is possible to limit a specific core to a specific multiplier - well no such thing AFAIK. If it is enough to limit the multiplier depending on how many cores are active then you may use the "per core" setting as suggested above.

Thanks a lot guys, I ended up Upgrading my Zalman 9900MAX to a Corsair H100i. So now I just leave the stock turbo boost and hyper threading on as it is intended to be.

Want a honest comparison from the Zalman to the H100i, the Zalman is a beast of a air cooler, and does so extremely quietly. The H100i is very slightly cooler than the zalman in quiet mode (3-5 degrees), but its in Maximum speed (rpm of the h100i fans) where it outperforms the Zalman by about 8-10c degrees. Which is pretty huge.

As much air flow I had in the case it was hard to get the zalman any cooler, but adding/ramping up the fans on the H100i made all the difference.

Zalman= high 30's low 40's idleing.
Zalman= high 60's low 70's on prime.

H100i= mid 30's low 40's idleing
H100i=high 50's low 60's on prime

maybe I should post this in another section too lol
