Very good work on the guide, KP.

There's a simple method to further test the PSU by using a multimeter to measure the output on each rail. It does take time and a bit of electrical knowledge to do so. But most importantly, the will to work with electricity lol. Not sure if you want to add it to your guide.

A good addition to the motherboard section is to inspect the CPU socket for bent or missing pins in Intel's case. Or inspect your CPU in AMD's case. It's a simple thing that many builders overlook. I also like to test the clipons for the RAM and PCIe slots just to make sure they snap into place and not too loose or broken. Then I'd proceed to inspecting the motherboard chokes and capacitors if there are any leakage or not soldered on properly.

things to do before building the system I have just finished.

    1. read this article

    Doh!

Good read, I was asked the other day by a work colleague to spec a system for his son. Obviously started with a ROG board. all the cool cats are running Max VI formulas and have told him to get on this forum before he gets it and try to avoid the first build schoolboy errors.
    Board: MVIF
    CPU: intel core i7 4770k@4.8GHz
    GPU: R9 290x
    RAM: 16gb Corsair Vengence 2133MHz
SSD: ROG RAIDR 240gb PCI-e SSD
    Case: Coolermaster HAF xb
    Cooling: custom water loop
    Monitor: Asus PB278Q

How to test before assembly if the CPU didn't come with a fan and the build is planned for full watercooling? Buy a basic fan just for the test I guess?
