That internal TB_Header!

I see it. There it is. Can't hide from me, oh no siree. But question is, can it be used??

Some online articles says " ASUS have confirmed Thunderbolt support on all it's Z87 boards" and yet although it's clearly there, nestled in between chassis_fan_1 and the ROG_Extension, there's not a mention of it in any of the manuals or marketing.

So whats up with that TB_Header?

I just went and had a look at http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P8Z77V_PREMIUM/ support page. And there certainly is marketing about the Thunderbolt here with the Premium.

It works.

Yes but Im talking Z87 Maximus VI. There is the TB_Header marked out on the board but whether it's a dead horse I don't know. Can t see *ANY* marketing or tech info stating clearly the Maximus VI offers Thunderbolt. Even in the manual although its in the layout graphic, it has no corresponding number /label in the layout table and is not identified as being anything.

Yet looking at the other boards I cant see why its on there if its not activated. From a manufacturing point of view what's gained by adding this in? The other boards have completely different positioning so it cant be a matter of reusing some base template PCB.

Heres an image to compare, TB_Header center-bottom of middle board (obviously)

If the header is there on the Extreme and it works on the P8Z77V PREMIUM then the header works.

The header is for the Thunderbolt add-in card which last I heard is still going through Intel's validation process.
