I just wanted to mention that, for me, enabling the Dynamic Storage Accelerator in the BIOS seems to have given me a decent little bump in multitasking. I need to test a little more to be sure. It might not do anything when certain power saving features are disabled. I'll have to double check my settings and get back. Maybe someone else with an SSD can enlighten me and/or verify this one way or the other.

Does anyone else go to Control Pannel-System-Advanced system settings (on bottom left) and in visual effects on the pane that pops up click settings and set for optimum performance...? or does diagnostic mode take care of this?

I do, Arne, and it helps. Windows 8 seems to need something in particular to be running. I get slightly worse scores in diagnostic mode. It might have something to do with the SSD Power scheme? I think I'm going to go through services.msc with a fine toothed comb and disable or set to manual everything I don't absolutely need running at startup and see if that makes a difference.

Once you have worked out what you want switched off in services just write a batch file and run it from the desktop.

That's a great idea, but what I really need are perfectly well thought out, reasonable and logical justifications to present to my wife for why I need to build a separate dedicated benching rig.
While you're working on that for me, I'll get busy writing those disable/enable batch files for Windows 8.1 and post them once I verify they work correctly. It's a win/win scenario!

Its easy to convince the wife why you want a dedicated benching set up. Because you want it.
Then casually suggest over dinner one evening that maybe benching is to stay at home kind of thing and you have been wondering if you should spend more time doing other stuff with your buddies, and that you heard there was a new tittybar opening up in town. Amazing how good a benching hobby suddenly sounds. To help us help you - please provide as much information about your system and the problem as possible.
