Is running the stress test the same as running the encoding test?

You will need this tool by Mark Russinovich:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/s.../bb896653.aspx
Mark is a systems super-genius. I like to have the entire Sysinternals Suite even though I've never gotten around to learning how to use more than half of the utilities it contains. It's such a small download, it's hard to resist not having that sort of ability at your beck and call if you ever need it, but prudence is the word of the day. Those with itchy clicker fingers probably should avoid some of the utilities in the suite. They might allow a person to really screw things up if they're not careful.

The encoding test is way harder. I do not bother with the stress test. I only use the benchmark.

Like Viz said the encoding test is currently better. That will change with v2

Heh, indeed the entire toolset is in my usb tool flash drive. My personal favorite (apart from Process Explorer) is Psexec. I use it to run the registry editor as the SYSTEM account and access restricted keys without changing key permissions or ownership. God knows how many times I have used it to remove broken SPTD driver key from Daemon Tools from various friends' systems (that specific key has restricted access by default due to DT blacklists and if you upgrade or repair-upgrade a windows installation without removing SPTD prior to the installation it gets "stuck", preventing reinstallation). But alas, I'm getting off-topic

Heh, next time then "psexec -s -i regedit", delete the sptd key from HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrectControlSet\services\, reboot and reinstall DT as normal

Has anyone compiled anything like a short and concise list of optimal bios settings for benching? Not really a guide, but something more along the lines of a pre-flight checklist?

Disable EIST/C-States and any onboard feature you are not using during your bench run (eg third party SATA)
