Can't overclock 4770K on my M6Formula

I'm not sure which one is at fault, the motherboard or the cpu, as I'm new to overclocking.
So I installed my Swiftech H320 today and temp dropped from 88 degree to 45 degree at 100% loaded stock clock. Like every other sane person would do, I try to overclock my cpu, BUT I couldn't get it over 4.0Ghz. WTH? When I try different 4.2 with different voltage, I still couldn't get my rig to boot up to Windows. It keeps saying WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR.

Anyone know how does this happen? :confused:

At a guess; your CPU probably needs more voltage than you used. You haven't specified the voltages you used to help someone help you - providing the relevant info is pivotal to getting valuable input.

I ran stress test my rig at stock clock, stock everything using Intel Burn In test. I set the stress level to very high, and one of my core hit 79 degree while other cores were at 76-78 degree. It is normal with all in one? Mine is triple 120mm rad though.

I tried from 1.180V to 1.255V for 4.2-4.4 Ghz. No luck on any of those. It just wouldn't get past 4.0 barrier.

Okay two things:

1) Some CPUs need more Vcore than 1.25V for the frequencies you mention. The worst examples I have seen need close to or upwards of 1.35V for 4.3GHz. So it does not suprise me the CPU may not be stable with the voltages you used. IF your sample is like that, there is not much you can do. Looking at the temps you are getting at stock I would hedge bets your cooling is going to run out of overhead if you stress test the CPU at overclocked frequencies with higher voltage levels.

2) Yes, some disparity between the core temps is "normal".

I was fortunate to hit the good chip lottery running 4.6ghz at 1.25v stable. Crashed after bout an hour at 1.2v but haven't tried to drop it from 1.25v yet because i think its my sweet spot for now.

Yeah, I'm convinced it's silicon lottery. Even it stock clock, it suddenly jump to 100 degree and crash when I ran stress test. It is covered under warranty? If not I'm going to sell this one for another 4770K.

what are the airflow of the fans?
if your pulling air OUT you will heat up the rad and coolant becouse your pulling hot air from inside the case and out.
and whats the ambient temp in you room?

I use Swiftech H320 All in One kit with triple Noctua NF-F12 120mm pull configuration. I have rad on top pulling air out, with a 200mm and other 3x120mm pushing air in. at under 20%, I get 40-ish degrees(~5degree drop). I have installed the block a few times to ensure it seats correctly, and thermal paste I use is just enough to cover the IHS. The problem is at 100% load, it just jumped from 60 degree to 100degree within a minute or less. For the ambient temp, it's around 25-27 degree Celsius.
