Hi all,

I purchased my first laptop last week, the Asus G750JW and I have been very impressed with it. The notebook doesn't come with an SSD so I have put my 120GB Crucial M4 from my desktop into the spare bay. Problem now is I want to format the 750GB HDD that comes with it and install Windows 8 onto the SSD. It is this bit that I am stuck with.

I have created a system image USB drive, booted from that USB and gone through the whole reset windows setup but at no point did it mention what drive I want Windows installed on - it just installed it back onto the HDD.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You can't use the system image drive, it's setup to format the 750 GB HDD. The way to go is to download the Windows 8 ISO legally from Microsoft, and make a USB install disk. From that, you can choose which disk to format and install onto. The installer will pick up the license key embedded in the BIOS and use that.

Use some cloning software to copy everything over. Try Easeus Disk Copy or Acronis True Image. They both have options to create bootable USB/CD's. This is the process I followed when I installed my SSD.

Hi all, many thanks for your replies. I have followed Ibbi's excellent guide and I'm pleased to say I now have Windows 8.1 installed on the SSD and the 750GB HDD running along side it.

Could you run GPU-Z and check the Bus Interface for me please?
I'm having problems with my G750JH and Windows 8.1.
PCI Express is stuck at x8 1.1.
