G74sx Second Hard Drive Upgrade Parts Needed

Hey gang, my G74SX originally came with a 750GB 7200rpm drive. I'm finally upgrading to a 128gb Samsung Pro SSD. I'm one of the unfortunate people that did not get the hard drive upgrade ziplock bag with the SATA connector assembly in the OEM box (I've read that many others did not get theirs either). So I need this to run both drives:

It looks like the ribbon cable is available on the Asus eStore but not the SATA connector board. I found the exact kit on eBay for $46 shipped from Australia.

My question is this, can I find the SATA ribbon/connector somewhere stateside that won't charge me $46 or is there a generic part that I can order that will work with the G74? Otherwise, I might break down and order the insanely priced kit from Australia

Possibly it is inside your laptop already? My G53SX had the second HDD equipment (except for the screws) already in the laptop.
I am disturbed because I cannot break my system...found out there were others trying to cope! We have a support group on here, if your system will not break, please join!

Thanks for the reply Zygo. I've checked and the second HDD bay only has an empty caddy.

Unfortunately I don't know of anywhere that you could get the necessary cable and adapter. Maybe you can contact ASUS and ask them if they carry it?

Talked to ASUS today, was informed that "that part is not sold to the end user". The support person I ended up with (after being sent back and forth twice between two different support numbers!) said that upgrade must be performed at the service center! Weird. since the parts seem to have been included at random in some packages as purchased.

As of today the Aussies are up to 58.68 USD price+shipping. Has anybody been able to locate a North American source?

This just in:
Found a link in another thread to the estore section specific to the G74, and viola! Here's the part:
http://us.estore.asus.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=4662. 40 bucks, but, it's there. Between this, the little tapey cable and shipping (cheap version) the combo runs $53. The caddy is another 22, which makes the Austrailian combo look too good to be true.

Don't really need the caddy, but the import does come assembled. Can anyone shed light on the process of attaching the cable to the board (HDD board, not the mobo)?

I think you can buy it from ASUS webstore in the USA. I'm not sure if they will let Australians buy through the US channels.

I'm looking for the exact same thing and am in the same boat. Sadly, the link you posted doesn't have anything there anymore.
I know this is an old thread, but I'm needing help finding the same thing!

Please.

I would check eBay, as someone is probably selling those components. Oh, and the other place to look is inside your computer. Make sure that ASUS didn't put the components in the bay itself.
