I didn't check the link but if they are black square components they are the chokes and do not need a heat sink.

Waiting patiently for my opportunity to order the black edition This will be my next board to see the inside of my case. I hope it turns out to be a reliable motherboard unlike the standard R4E which i found to have all sorts of niggling problems from vengence ram to not booting on cold mornings. I would rather wait an extra month or so, so they can get the board to where it needs to be for a reliable product. Now that would be nice. I am pretty happy with the rampage 4 formula which i got for my wife and have been really impressed with the whole board and the software in particular. Infact i have been more impressed with the formula over the extreme due to owning both. I really hope the black edition will be a tough cookie and stay strong under load.

Hi everyone, despite that I am out of work and penniless as of the time I am writing this--I have high-hopes that before the end of the year, that I might be able to afford one of these. Like I said, I am currently unemployed and broke, but I NEED a new PC because I use it as an artist/writer. II submitted my writing to a company, and if they choose to purchase at least two of my five projects I will be able to build one of two systems.

Originally, the cheaper of the two builds was budgeted at $2,000, but now I realize that isn't going to happen. So my new budget is $4,000 for the cheaper build and $8,000 for the larger (this included accessories and other office supplies such as a new Wacom Art Tablet).

Not to jinx this but, feel free to wish me luck with my projects (which can be found here), also feel free to let me know if either of the setups below are decent or horrible. If I do manage to make a sell and can afford to build a new PC whether it's the cheaper one or the more expensive one, I am mostly using it to multi-task as a graphic designer, artist, illustrator, etc.. as well as gaming on the side.

I do have one question. For the video card on the cheaper build, there are two versions. One is the reference card, the other is the re-design with heatsink pipes; personally I like the way the reference card looks, but the re-design with the two fans seems like it might perform better. My question is: Does the re-design version make a significant difference with stock speeds and performance, or would the reference card be an alright or acceptable choice?

Going to build my first water cooled system with this board. My quesiton is about the fan headers. I'm going to have 4 fans on a 480x120 rad., maybe another 2 fans on a 240x120 rad., and 4 more case fans. What would be the best way to tied these fans in? My thought was to just get a manual fan controller and establish a baseline watching the temps while in gaming and non gaming modes. Or, would it be better to let the motherboard control these fans? If so, how would I connect these fans to this board? The manual doesn't really tell me much about how these fan headers work.

    Thanks,

    Brian

@Spook_Central: You can save some money if you get a 4930K instead of the 4960X. Unless you do regular heavy long rendering (3D or video encoding) you will not see any difference from the 4960X that would justify the price difference.

Back in the day when 3960x and 3930k were around, If only I knew to get 3930k instead of 3960x... since there aren't much difference in performance between the two really except the price...

If only I gotten that instead I would of saved some money :3 But now since I have 3960x.. I just have to go along with it >w<
