External monitor for the G75VX

Urologist

Hello,
I want to buy an external monitor for my G75VX.
I am seriously considering this http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?s=bsd&sku=320-2676
My only concern is that it has not an HDMI.
However it has:
1 Digital Visual Interface connectors (DVI-D) with HDCP
1 DisplayPort(DP)
1 Video Graphics Array (VGA)

What is the optimal connection to my laptop and what cable should I use?

An alternative to the monitor above would be:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/CROSSOVER-27Q-LED-P-PIVOT-27-LED-Computer-Monitor-WQHD-2560x1440-DVI-Dual-Li...

However, the seller states"
"Onboard graphics and APU chipset is not compatible.
Laptop or laptop with docking station and Macbook series does not recommended for this kind of By-pass (DVI output only) model."

Is it really not suitable for my asus?

Thanks a lot for your help.

Well your Thunderbolt port is also a Mini Display port some where there is a software switch to enable either Thunderbolt or Display port, and you have a HDMI port.
I think I would go for the Mini display port first choice as long as you don't need it for Thunderbolt ? I'm sure you can get a cable that has Mini display to display.
2nd would be HDMI

So if the seller states this monitor is not for laptops I don't think I would buy it.
You might want to look at Asus Monitors also they have some really nice ones.

ASUS tech support has me going in circles on this.

Which should I use? I have the g75vx and the vg248qe.

Dual DVI to HDMI
or
HDMI to HDMI.

Which will get me the highest refresh rate. or the best overall performance.

Currently I have the HDMI/Forrest from audio quest but only pushes 60.

I tried the display port to HDMI but it would not work.

Will the DVI to HDMI be my best option?

Or what is the best option. I dont think I can get to 144 with the 670mx vid card.

Thanks for the info.

Thanks dude. I did read your postings earlier and purchased the item you listed but the mini port does not work???

I went into the display and advanced but not changes options show up in the options to go from 60 to 120. Do I need to do some change in the laptop? The HDMI reads immediately. I'm at a loss here. What do you suggest?

Do you have a pic of the cables your using. The mini I used was a small square for I guess is a MAC config. Maybe that's the problem.

I'll go back and get the straight cable. I'll try that. I was givin one that converts an external MAC Monitor . So that may be the reason.

Thanks again for the visual. I have been back and forth to best buy like 6 times by now. LOL. I'll get the glasses next. UDAHMAN!
