TN or IPS for Gaming ?

I have always had a tn panel monitor simply because most gamers say you need to have at least a 2ms. & 120hz panel for gaming with shooters like any cod or battlefield games. There also seems to be a lack of any industry standard method or independent body, for measuring response times. Personally I would prefer an IPS because for me in gaming being able to admire a fictional world in all it's beauty is part of the fun.

I have read that a IPS panel might downgrade the fast paced play of any new title like say Battlefield 4, Since I have only owned 2ms - 120hz monitors & the people I talk to say "You either get a fast TN or a slow but color accurate IPS panel." What to do, any of you guys have comments on gaming with IPS panels are they good I know that the picture looks awesome, can a person really see the difference between say a 2ms & a 8ms monitor some say yes & some say no way, Thoughts please.

Hi abvolt....I have an IPS U2711...I got it for the colour gamut etc for photography...but I game on it as often as I can...and it's great!! has a response time of 6ms which, if I'm to believe the marketing, is slower than my grandmother knits but in all honesty I can't say I sit here noting anything...in fact it's just an awesome screen for gaming IMO...

Maybe if you put a 2ms TN pannel next to me I'd notice a difference in speed? I genuinely dont know.....I'd certainly notice a difference in colour LOL;)

Arne I do not think you will see the difference.

I have teh ASUS 27" 144Mhz gaming screen and right next to it is a IPS screen. I swapped my primary monitor in control panel and I could not see the difference from a lag perspective.

Not sure that the tech is there yet to make a fast response ips panel.

I play Battlefield on my PB278Q. (It is an Asus monitor with Samsung PLS technology in it.) I could not be happier. I am coming from a 1080p Asus 24" monitor with 2ms response and honestly I can't tell a difference. I can't speak for 120/144Hz monitors because I have never used them. I can tell you the picture on this monitor (PB278Q) is phenomenal though and at least for me works great for gaming.

I think that from now on we should wait for G-sync monitors and get them for gaming. It will be the only reasonable choice for gamers. I am buying it as soon as there will be any of them available in local stores...
