In SLI Hell - Maximus VI Extreme

Yesterday I bought two Gigabyte GTX 780s to use in SLI for my Maximus VI Extreme.... so far it has been a nightmare. I put the cards in slot 1 and b2 as stated in the motherboard and I got a 94 or a 96 Q-Code. I finally got into BIOS and reset to defaults. Now the card in B2 doesnt show up at all. I swapped the card from slot 1 to slot b2 and it also doesnt show up in b2 but the one that was in b2 before now shows up in slot 1. If I put the cards in slots 1 and 3 they show up. If I put the cards in slots 1 and a2 they show up.

I am on the Asus Maximus VI Extreme... with 0804 BIOS... Anyone have any advice or thoughts? This problem is driving me crazy.

Does anyone actually have SLI working properly with cards in slot 1 and slot b2?

This seems to be a very common problem unfortunately :(...http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?35739-maximus-vi-extreme-sli-no-VGA-detected-slot-B2&countr...

Not that that helps but sometimes good to know you're not the only one...

Not sure if any have found a solution yet.....have you updated BIOS?

I am on 0804 and adjusted the voltages as suggested to 1.25... still problems. If SLI doesn't work then this motherboard is useless to me and so far this is looking ugly. Also one of the reasons I went to the Asus Maximus VI extreme was to run SLI in PCIe 3.0...

Both GTX 780s test as good so the problem is not the cards. I have also tried three different bridges. Everything points to a problem with the Asus Maximus VI Extreme motherboard as per http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?35739-maximus-vi-extreme-sli-no-VGA-detected-slot-B2&countr...

Apparently an RMA is a total waste of time as people report it doesn't solve the problem. I consider not being able to properly run two GPUs in SLI a very serious defect in this motherboard's design or BIOS. I am very disappointed right now.

Unfortunately my situation is even worse than the average people who are having problems with 2 X SLI on this motherboard. When I put the cards back into the machine I can not even reliably post. 8 out of 10 times I get q-code 94 or 96 :mad::mad:

btw, I have also confirmed that both of my new GPUs are running the same firmware version...

use it in pcie 1 and 3 since your running a pcie soundcard if im not wrong?
if the sound card is in a red slot you will disable slot 2b, if its in a black slot ( pcie1x/4x ) the 2b should work.
just be shure you have fastened the cards secure in the pcie slots, power to the molex on the motherboard for extra power to the cards.
manual -> PCIe 3.0/2.0_x8_B2 slot will be disabled when PCIe 3.0/2.0_x16_A2, PCIe 3.0/2.0_
x8_3, PCIe 3.0/2.0_x8_4 slots are occupied <-

PCI Bus Enumeration
this is a sandybridge problem post, but it may have the same affect as on the 4'th gen too.

try and pull out the USB things that you dont use to see if that rules out some thing ( let KB and mouse stay in and pull the other devices )

but its no guarantee that it will work tho.
it can be that the bios stil need tweaking.

I noticed I do not have a cable plugged into ez_plug_1. Is it required for two 780s?

btw, both cards currently have the power cables plugged into the PS.
