G75vw - choppy video playback HDTV via HDMI

Hello fellow ROGers!

I recently purchased a HDMI cable (v 1.4, 3 meters), so I could enjoy watching full HD movies on my HDTV.
However I'm experiencing massive fps-drops more or less every "scene-change".

According to the task manager my laptop is hardly taxed at all during playback, nevertheless the fps drops.

My TV is a Samsung PS50A676 which I've been watching HD video on previously via VGA with an older laptop.

Settings are as follows:
Windows 7
1920x1080@60hz on both laptop screen and TV
Desktop is 'extended'
Windows Aero is disabled
Nvidia drivers are: 327.23 which were released 9/19/13 (I've also tried the previous set of drivers and reinstalled the latest ones once)
Computer scanned with MSE and Anti-Malware with latest updates and was 100% clean.
TV is set to 'Game mode'
TV is set to not adjust for overscan ("Just scan")

As you might deduce, I've spent a fair amount of time troubleshooting and searching the interwebs for possible fixes and I think I might slowly go insane in the membrane!

Would appreciate any kind of input on this matter!

Peace!

Shameless bump since my issues persist. Choppy playback, slowed down performance generally, while CPU and RAM are not even breaking a sweat.

I would've brought this in to the hardware support by now, though I bought this computer abroad at best buy.
