It isn't. matter of fact, overclocking doesn't downgrade or set you back on G-Series or newer laptop. Due to the newer Cooling designs, and more efficiency of late technology. you don't have to worry about overclocking. All Nvidia GPU now has a safe guard that triggers if you go above the system stability and resets. Now of course, certain laptops coolings are very bad and arent meant to support overclocking. same goes for CPU they will just throttle down if temps are exceeding above their life sustainability core temps. but for G-series case, you don't have to worry about it

Overclocking G-series is ideal because the cooling is far beyond exceeding excellence. you would gain around 15 up to 25 FPS increase depending on the card you have and how well the pasting went on your laptop (some times, some units will have poor paste thus leading to high temperatures> risky overclocks)
As long you keep checking the temperatures when you OC. you will be fine.

You'll get a lot of mixed opinions on this. Some (many support specialists and some technicians) do not recommend it. You run the risk of higher temps, instability, etc.
Many enthusiasts on the other hand will tell you that as long as your keep the OCing within safe clocks (usually around 10%, depending on the card), then all should be well. You still are liable to run hotter though, regardless.
In the end, it's really up to your performance needs. Personally, I don't recommend it for laptops. Their design does not allow as efficient heat transfer for components as desktops do. And then as Pitcher mentioned, many times, the BIOS or vBIOS is locked to prevent you from doing it in the first place.
