Free games when buying NVia graphics cards

I would just like to express (share) my dismay about the supposedly "free" games you are allegedly receive when you purchase NVIDIA graphics cards. I recently spent $800.00 on two GTX680 cards. The promise was to experience the Batman Arkham Origins game. I understand the game is not available until mid/end October, which is fine. My problem is the game is not offered as a download. In reality you have to play it through Steam (I think). I don't even know what Steam is. I tried to deal with registration process through Steam and kept getting dead-ended. Same through NVidia's site.

I thought when I bought the cards I would get a free game to download and play. Are my expectations too high? I realize this forum is not NVIDA's complaint department. I'm just wondering is anybody is experiencing the same "let down". Or maybe I am doing something seriously wrong or have the wrong impression of what was offered. Any advice or input would be appreciated.

Steam imo is by far the best way to buy games I have bought like 156 games from steam . You can take your games anywhere in the world , they can't be stolen or lost you can share them with family even plus there are tons of free games on steam. Once you try it I think you're going to love it.

Well of course the game is not offered as a download, like you said....it's not available yet. It will be available for download on the day it's released. All you have to do is download Steam, as kkn above stated, set the drive location for your Steam Folder and then when the game is available, all you do, is register the code you got with your cards from within Steam "Games ---> Activate A Product On Steam" when you have activated, then you will be able to download it, not before

I use Steam too and think it's great but I must admit the same protest has passed through my mind when the download has been offered through UPlay for instance. Free game but with hoops to jump through...

You will have to go here first however http://www.geforce.com/games-applica...als-promotions with any promo code you have and they will send you an email with the final code to enter in steam. Steam install should be easy ...

    Thank-you for your replies

    So....
You download Steam and download the game and keep both entire programs on your local drive.
You can't play the fully loaded software unless you go though Steam (?)

I've bought games from retail stores and internet, loaded the software and played it. A third party wasn't required.
These "Steam" games can only be played, while on-line? Why the middleman?
