G74sx Turbo Boost lacking...

Hey all. Just wanted to ask this question here since this is definitely the best knowledge-base for the G-series Asus tankbooks.

I have been trying to work with my processor to see exactly how much clock speed gain I am getting when turboboost kicks in. I have a second monitor that I use to keep temperature and clock speed gauges up while I'm playing to keep an eye on things. I noticed the turboboost never goes over 2.81Ghz, ever.

I took a look at intel's website, and with the i7-2670QM, it advertises a turboboost clock speed of 3.1Ghz.

Is there a setting or application I can use to help squeeze out that 3.1Ghz, or am I just kind of stuck with what I got? Thanks!

OK, how many threads are you exercising? I've written a program that would test Turboboost out by running different numbers of threads, and (me) watching the Turboboost monitor widget. If you have only one thread running, then the max is 3.1 GHz, if you have 2, it's probably 2.8 GHz, and if 4, then 2.6 GHz or so.

If you want the test program, I can probably find and upload it - it's dirt simple.
I am disturbed because I cannot break my system...found out there were others trying to cope! We have a support group on here, if your system will not break, please join!

We now have 178 people whose systems will not break! Yippee! 🙂

fair enough, the threading scenario makes sense. I'm sure it's working correctly. Thanks!
