BIOS 1406 for P9X79-E WS released to public
    1. Improve compatibility for USB3.0.
    2. Improve stability for chassis fan 3 (CHA_FAN3).
    3. Add item "Intel(R) VT-d" when using IvyBridge CPU.
    4. Modify the sting and helping string of PCI Above 4G Decoding.

So this can be fix but they do not want to release it for non Workstation Mainboard ...

BIOS 4505 for P9X79 WS released to public
    1. Improve compatibility for USB3.0.
    2. Improve stability for chassis fan 3 (CHA_FAN3).
    3. Patched CPU clock speed value incorrectly.
    4. Add item "Intel(R) VT-d" when using IvyBridge CPU.
    5. Added "CPU C7 Report" setup item if the CPU is supported.

Even the "old" P9X79 WS has a fix ... not a good sign for us ...

A different BIOS team works on the workstation boards so this does not mean the other boards will not see the same update.. And I would expect this would be seen as more of a priority for this class board compared to gaming/overclocking boards.

Looks like the RIVBE just got VT-d support for IB-E in BIOS revision 0507.
I'd bet support is coming soon for the RIVE.

Hopefully all Asus X79 motherboards will finally support this and we can lay this issue to rest

The update is planned for all boards - just testing each takes time. And yes the WS boards are a higher priority for these types of feature because of their obvious usage model.

    Nice to know, too late

And yes the WS boards are a higher priority for these types of feature because of their obvious usage model.
That's very understandable, however the total lack of any documentation of this feature just baffles me. When I was shopping for a board, I figured that the WS boards would be supported, but there was nothing showing that. So since I was going to buy either a double Xeon system or a single I7 system, but neither with any indication of the feature being supported, I clearly was going to pick the cheaper i7 solution with the assumption that if it wasn't supported for months on end or indefinitely at least I'd be out fewer bucks. It's the kind of thing that is very customer unfriendly, and costs the computer industry. The argument that something is supported but just inoperable indefinitely because it is bugged would be better if it were published in advance, so that the consumer would know. Hopefully when people search the internet now, they will find this thread and many like it.

For what it's worth, the 9502 beta bios works on RIVE, but it is flaky ; it's just not a rock solid stable system. Perhaps it is worthwhile to spend 2-4 times as much money for a workstation with a vendor that explicitly supports vt-d.
